@Beebug: WOW, you were a trooper!!

I'm not 100% sure it's a scope... they are replacing his ACL with a cadaver ACL (gross, sorry).

It's definitely "just" a scope if he's hoping to work 3 days post-op!

I had a scope too (same injury too!) Reconstruct is like 8 weeks of nothingness, long long recovery!

Doable depending on his work! I was in the middle of exams when I had mine done, and was still able to go to my exams, the first was two days post-op. I did not take drugs post-op and definitely over did it, drugs was doable, but I still feel bad twinges in one spot on the outside of knee I know I did too much on, so while doing "stuff" is ok, there definitely needs to be a limit, and he has to make sure to not push it :)

I was on my horse again a few weeks post-op. Was skiing again 8 weeks later (which....was probably too much.....but I did it) physio was key, don't skip out on that!!

@Beebug: I think a scope...

Thanks for the backwards stairs tip! Wait, but how do you do that on crutches?!

He's hoping he won't have to take Monday off work, 3 days after surgery... I wonder if it's doable??

Best of luck!! I've had four knee surgeries, although never on my ACL.

I recommend rest, good books, and following the physical therapists (or dr) orders for recovery. :)

My SIL and best friend have both had it. It was just a slow recovery - take the drugs the first few days! My SIL tried to power through and not take them on day 3. She invited us over for dinner.. it was horrible. She was miserable and in so.much.pain. So we left! My best friend took the drugs, almost lit her kitchen on fire while on them, but the pain was tolerable! LOL
Both went up stairs backwards as @Beebug suggested!

Scope or complete reconstruct?

Best tip ever for stairs post-op for me? Go backwards going up :)

My DH is having surgery on his ACL tomorrow and we're nervous!! Anyone have this type of surgery, or their SO or a friend or family member? How long did recovery take, and was it tough?? Any thoughts are appreciated!

It's gonna be tricky because we live in a 3rd floor walk-up, so anytime he needs to go anywhere, he'll have to tackle a lot of stairs :( I will be exclusively walking the dog 3x a day for a few weeks (dreading that!!).
