This happened to me when my dd had reflux. She'd only nurse when sleepy or when I was standing up swaying her. So awkward, we couldn't go anywhere!! Once we got her meds right she was fine. Just depends on if you think she is in pain/something is really wrong or she's just giving you attitude.... Mama knows best!

@Mrs. Deer: It definitely isn't fun! I get really frustrated, especially when I can tell there's plenty of milk there. I hope the strike ends for you soon!

@Mrs. Deer: No advice :( This is why I gave up nursing at 4 months and switched to EPing....it was like this for us almost every nursing feeding for a long time and I just couldn't take it anymore. :( I know lots of babies do this short term though, and it doesn't last forever!

@Pirouette: thanks! We haven't had any big life changes so I can only assume it's the bottle? I so hope it ends soon.

@nana87: I'm sorry you've dealt with this a lot! It's definitely not fun :/

This happens with lo a lot! I don't even try nursing in public anymore bc she much prefers bottles unless we're sitting in a quiet room. She had a nursing strike when we started daycare around 6 months, but I think it was also related to a cold-- it lasted about a week. Now (8.5 mos) she wiill always nurse motn and mornings but sometimes will fight me in the afternoons (I have low supply issues so it might be that my flow is slower then)

oh i'm so sorry. I've been there, and the good news is my LO then became a boobaholic after we got through it (and stopped taking bottles, haha. it was all or nothing i guess)! At 10.5 weeks i went back to work and LO went through a full on mommy strike - she wouldn't even let me hold her! it lasted maybe 10 days? but the good news is it was over as quickly as it started. One thing that helped was me giving her a bottle myself while holding her in the nursing position - she'd take a few sips and then realize she preferred it from the tap and start nursing. Also not pushing her and just letting her decide when to nurse. I pumped a lot to make sure i kept my supply up, and nursed her mostly when she was sleepy/sleeping. and tried to be relaxed about it - if she didn't want to be near mommy, so be it. i calmly went to the other room (and cried :silly: )

I'm now struggling to get my 1 year old OFF the breast, so yes, she came back, with a vengeance :) Happy to answer any specific questions you have - i hope this is short-lived for you!!

This happened to my friend. Her son just stopped nursing, within a week he was back to nursing. And she nursed for a year. I think she just tried nursing and then gave a bottle so he would eat.

I just don't have it in me to fight one more battle :( Do you any of you all have experience with a nursing strike? I'd love to hear your stories.

I've never gone through this before. We nurse (with nipple shields - she has a shallow latch made worse by my forceful letdown). She's never seemed to have too much of a problem with nursing minus the latch issues. Every few days she's taken a bottle from my mom no problem. Two nights ago my mom gave her a bottle so we could take Lucy to the park and have one-on-one birthday time with her. When I got home she refused to nurse! Like freak-out screamed for 45 minutes any time I tried. I eventually got her to nurse after she was about 90% asleep. She nursed throughout the night, then in morning the same thing happened. I had to give her a pacifier and get her almost asleep before I could pop her on. The next go-around I just gave up and pulled out the bottle. Sure enough she happily accepted it. We did this all day yesterday. Overnight she's let me nurse her but I'm pretty sure we'll be back to battling again in the morning. I honestly think she just suddenly realized she likes the bottle better, but what can I do? I don't have the time or ability to cup/spoon feed her with a toddler that really needs my extra attention right now (or to get her sleepy each time). If she won't nurse she's getting a bottle, yet that seems to be the problem right there. I haven't changed my lotions lately, she's not sick or teething yet (10 weeks old), I'm not eating any new foods… I think it's just the bottle. I'm at a total loss :(

I would love any advice or just to hear your story. Were you able to get baby back to the breast?
