@snowjewelz: From reading online, it sounds like they are almost out of the nest because they are starting to wander around a bit now. Ugh I just hope they stay out of our yard once they are grown! I can't protect all the bunnies forever!!

@MrsBrewer: Hopefully they will grow big soon and leave the nest! I had that too the first year we moved in; but thankfully my dog was still with my parents while we were settling in!

@avivoca: Thanks!! We tried a harness when my big one was a puppy, but that seemed to encourage pulling more...he enjoys pulling/working. It's in his breed! But thank you for the suggestion!!

@snowjewelz: Yea, I think that's what I will have to do while the babies are still in the nest truthfully. The dogs listen too if I tell them no thankfully. I have been going outside with them if DD is sleeping too, I just bring out the baby monitor!

@regberadaisy: I've thought about that, but we have a pretty small yard, and where the nest is located, is in a pretty central location....hahahah go figure!

Looks like I will just suck it up for the next few weeks and just go outside with the dogs!

I know some put a stake in the ground, attached a long rope to the stake and the other end to a collar. You could make the rope just long enough so they can't get to the nest? Would you consider something like that and just let the dogs take turns being outside? At the very least they can do their business and you don't have to wrangle two dogs and a baby at once!

Aww so cute!!

Can you just take the baby, go outside with them, and just stand where the nest is to forbid them from going near it?

And don't let them out if you can't (if baby is sleeping, etc).

@MrsBrewer: If you do decide to leash train, I find a harness to be much easier to use than a collar leash. Bea has a hard time with pulling too but by harnessing her I'm able to deal with it. I also think that dogs pull more with a collar leash rather than a harness, but that's just my experience. She weighs 65 pounds and I've been walking her while wearing H since H was born.

@avivoca: We put them on a leash for the vet, but DH takes them one at a time, and they pull like crazy! I can somewhat control the smaller one, but my bigger dog is too strong for me.

@mrs.shinerbock: Hmm, yes I could fence, but I have to make sure the momma would be able to get back to the nest at night? I've read to put a weighted laundry basket over the nest during the day, but I'm afraid that would just cause more attraction to the area, and the dogs would just dig around it to move it, you know?

@MrsBrewer: aw so cute! This would be such a disaster for us. Our dog killed a squirrel on the weekend and I felt so bad even though I don't like those annoying squirrels!

@regberadaisy: I wish I could leash! Truthfully we never leash trained them, because it's really never needed for us. We have a fenced back yard, and take them to the dog park, all off leash. So trying to put a leash on a 110 lb and 75 lb dog, doesn't work unfortunately.

I would just put a leash on your dogs and take them out. Put the baby somewhere safe for 5 minutes. Or strap her on like ^ said. Do this until the baby bunnies are old enough to run away!

@avivoca: Yea......that's what I have been doing, and it's really not that bad. I just feel bad, because they love being outside during the day now that it's getting nice out, instead they are cooped up on the house. But it should only be for another week or 2. Maybe I will just have to do that. I don't want to be the cause of another casualty :-(

Honestly, I'd strap the baby on and go out with the dogs if you can't walk them. If you mess with the nest too much, the mom may desert them and they will die. We had this happen last year and Bea just wasn't allowed to be in the yard without us until the nest was vacant.

We have 2 dogs that are lab mixes, so needless to say they love hunting critters in the backyard and they are FAST! So....found out that a momma bunny decided to make a nest in our backyard....and there are 3 baby bunnies.

We can't leave the nest where it is, the dogs have found it, and unfortunately got one of the bunnies already. I luckily grabbed the other 2 in time, and put them in the next door neighbors yard. They are a little older, they are able to hop around, and have their eyes open, so I think they are close to weaning (at least that's what the internet says!).

Every morning they find their way back to the nest though.....I have a LO and it isn't practical to go outside with the dogs every time.....

What do you suggest? I'm thinking tonight I may go and kind of destroy the nest, so that the momma has to make them a new one? Any other suggestions? I feel awful, and I don't want my dogs to get the other 2 bunnies.
