I went to a chiro and it helped, but the pain was still there and didn't go away completely (at 29w). Started PT at 32w and in just one session I'm so much better! I can run again, which is pretty crazy because I could barely walk. Highly recommend PT - I'm seeing a pelvic rehab specialist. If you can find one, I recommend going that route. The results for me are way better than the months of PT I had for this several years ago.

@MrsTiger: I saw a PT and a chiropractor while pregnant (for different reasons) and both were great! I would try to find people that have experience working with pregnant ladies though.

My insurance didn't cover the chiro, so I didn't need a referral. The person I saw was recommended by my prenatal yoga teacher.

But for the PT I did have my OB write a referral and it was covered by insurance. I just found the closest PT place that was covered and then called to see if they had someone with pregnant lady experience. :)

Maybe consider seeing an acupuncturist for the pain as well?

I had horrible SPD and wore a support belt. It made a huge difference as long as I was wearing it.

Just to let you know, there is light at the end of the tunnel! There were days I could barely walk, and I had immediate relief after delivery.

I see someone who practices Active Release Therapy and its very helpful for all my weird muscular issues..:but I wore an SI belt after my pregnancy which might help you now? My chiro had suggested it. I actually had more pelvic pain after pregnancy because it slipped out.

I saw both a PT and chiro when I was pregnant for pain management. Both were recommendations of my OB, because both specialized in prenatal care. I didn't need a referral for my health insurance and just paid my co-pay. I think insurance covered around 20 visits per year of each PT and chiro.

I got amazing relief from both a Chiro and a physical therapist for SPD, and I was about as far along as you are. If you were going to pick one over the other, I think the PT was the most helpful.

I started going to a chiropractor about halfway through my last pregnancy in 2012 for awful sciatic pain....and I've been going religiously ever since. When I'm pregnant, I tend to go every other week. When I'm not, I only go once a month. I bring my two kids, as well. (Age 13 and age 2). My 2 yr old has gone since birth and is very rarely sick, and I honestly feel the chiro has a lot to do with that. He's only had one slight ear infection and a runny nose here and there. As for the money aspect, I'm sure it all depends on your insurance, but all I have to pay is my $20 copay for each visit. I'm in Ma too, but I'm about 20 mins north of Boston, so I'm guessing my doctor would be too far for you. I will say, I've always been curious about chiropractic care and was hesitant, but I spoke with a friend from high school (who is a chiro) and she helped ease my mind a bit. It's important to find a gentle chiro that has experience working with pregnant women.

I'm not sure what SPD is specifically but I had a lot of butt cheek/hip/back pain and saw a pt for the last 2 months and it was amazingly helpful. Check into your health insurance...mine was covered 90% after meeting my deductible. I live in nc where you can see a specialist without a referral, so I didn't need one here, although my ob is the one who recommended it and I'm sure she would have completer one if it had been necessary. Good luck!!

I am 26 weeks pregnant and after talking to my doctor this afternoon she is 95% sure the pain I am feeling is SPD. She said I could look up exercises but wasn't really helpful in what exactly to do to make this better for the next 14 weeks! I just searched the old threads here and it sounds like lots of people saw a chiropractor or got PT and that it helped.

Did you have to get referred from your OB? How did you find someone to work with? I've never been to a chiro or PT so I'm not sure how the process works!

I'm about 45 minutes west of Boston if anyone local has specific suggestions!
