After drying out for about 28 hours (combo of rechargeable dehumidifier and rice at the end), I turned on the phone and it started right up. We transferred the pics and videos to an external hard drive without issue and I'm so relieved

I dropped my iPhone in the tub, too! I pulled it out ASAP and propped it up with the charging slot on the bottom, hoping any water would drain out. After 45 minutes or so I hit it with hot air from the hair dryer for a minute. :silly: I don't know if it was because of what I did, but amazingly, my phone was fine!

My daughter put my moms phone in a cup of tea - milk, sugar and all. We have no idea how long it sat in there, but the phone was probably 75% covered in tea. I can't remember if she put it in water to help get the sugar out or if she just put it in a bag of rice, but she left it for a day and then it was fine. It did some weird things and we thought it was toast, but it ended up fine!

I had mine in my pocket at a high school football game. It started pouring and we ran under the bleachers. I realized it had fallen out once I got down there. Like others, a bag of rice for 24 hours and it worked again. The speaker sounded garbled for a day or two, and I've used it for the last two years since without a problem.

I dropped my phone in a pot of water once, and my husband's phone was floating in a backpack full of water (a combination of riding his bike through a storm and a Nalgene bottle that wasn't closed well), and both times rice + 24/48 hours worked (I left mine for 24 hour because I grabbed it right out of the water and his longer because we weren't sure how long it had been soaking...)

Our nanny recently dropped her iPhone in the toilet - it was fully submerged for a few seconds. It looked like a lost cause but after an overnight in a bag of rice, it was good as new!

@HappyBaker: Thank you for the positive story! We actually don't have any rice, DH is stopping to grab some on the way home. Hopefully the dehumidifier helps until it gets here.

@TemperanceBrennan: Thank you! There are probably some pictures I beamed to DH's phone or emailed our parents, I'll be hunting through accounts tonight to see what I can find.

@Truth Bombs: Unfortunately its an Android, I'll call Verizon after I give it time to dry out to see if there is any cloud storage things would've backed up to. Thank you!

@BananaPancakes: I'll be researching any nearby companies tonight, thank you!

@hilsy85: So glad to hear you were able to get photos off of it, I'll definitely try connecting to my computer once it dries out. Thank you!

@AB810: The rice is on the way, thanks!

If you turn it on, it could short out so don't do that! I second the bag of rice - once I ran DH's phone through the washing machine and it still worked (subpar) after 24 hours in a bag of rice. Sometimes the apple genius bar people can recover information from shot phones.

This happened to me twice and both times the phone was ruined, but the 2nd time I was able to get some photos off it by plugging it into my computer. I would try a hair dryer. Good luck!

Don't turn it on! Bag of rice ASAP and look into local companies that do water damage fixes. Usually they take the phone apart and then stick it into a dehydrator. It worked great for my husband just recently. Dropped his phone in the pool and we both thought for sure to was fried. Good luck!

And definitely don't turn it on! It's not the water that does the damage, it's trying to turn it on before it's completely dry.

I've had luck in the past by just waiting a really long time before I try to turn it back on to make sure it is dried out. Worked normally after that.

If worst comes to worse, I think there are companies that could try to recover your photos.

Good luck! I know how heartbreaking losing pictures can be. Did you post any to Facebook/email/instagram? My phone automatically uploads to google drive and I didn't realize it did for a long time.

Put it in a bag full of rice for 24 hours - don't turn it on until at least 24 hours have passed! I dropped my iPhone in the toilet (gross) and turned it on right after it happened and it was fine, then it started going crazy. I did the rice thing and it was totally fine after that!!

So I'm 33 weeks pregnant and my fluid is already running on the low side. I've been hydrating as much as I can and taking daily baths to help. When DS was napping today I took a bath and grabbed my phone to check the time when I dropped it in the water. It sank about half way down before I was able to grab it. It restarted itself and went into safe mode then different options started turning themselves on and off. I pulled the back off and the battery out. I emailed DH and he said to put it in a ziplock bag with one of our rechargeable dehumidifiers we use in our gun safe. I'm so upset with myself. While I am annoyed at myself for possibly ruining the phone, the bigger problem is we never backed up the photos or videos saved to the phone's memory before I finally added a SD card (even though it has been on the to-do list plenty of times and we've backed the SD card up). I keep crying and thinking of my son's baby pictures on there and videos of him that I don't have anywhere else.

Does anyone have experience with dropping their phones in water and what was the result? Even if the phone is ruined is there any way to get the photos and videos off?
