LO has MSPI and has green slimy poop when I eat dairy. One thing to note is that it takes a long time for it to fully get out of their systems- 2 weeks out of your milk, and another 2 weeks out of LO, so it could still be residual from that, too.

I'm sorry you are dealing with this. Feel free to come hang out with us on the MSPI board!

I noticed more spit up on coffee days. It could be the acidity not the caffeine. Try switching to decaf and/or eliminating it to see what happens.

I think caffeine CAN have an effect but that it's very rare. Even though everything I read told me it was highly unlikely, I was certain it had something to do with my daughter's spittiness, but eliminating did absolutely nothing to help. So, I think it's unlikely but possible!

@anandam: so another thing my LC mentioned today was that if they are struggling with reflux they may eat less and get more fore milk and less of the hind milk. So your green stools may be a milk balance issue but there still could be something causing the reflux/spit up that makes them only want to eat small amounts (and never fully empty a breast).

@T.H.O.U.: @regberadaisy: Now that you mention it, my guy also seems to have more spit up on the days with the worst stool symptoms, so it must be related to whatever's causing it.

Could it be something other than dairy (like soy, egg, nuts, etc?) I have never heard of caffeine causing bloody poop, but i don't know!

How interesting.

Caffeine affected my first LO in that it kept her up. I recently started drinking a Chai latte a day, really a half cup,, and have noticed more spit up. But I wondered if reflux was to be blamed. But didn't seem consistent with reflux either.

I've wondered about caffeine myself but I've never tried eliminating and reducing made no difference in my son's symptoms.

He does have MSPI (at least that's what we are going with) and his only symptom was the green, slimy poop with blood. At times a lot of blood. It took 8 weeks of no dairy and three of no soy to see a change.

I'm curious to See the responses. I was actually just coming here tonight to ask the question about caffeine affecting babies and reflux. I also exclusively breast-feed my one-month-old baby boy. Just this week he said all he is having really bad spit up. The only thing I can think of is that maybe this week I've had more caffeine than I have in the past couple weeks.

LO has had green, mucusy stools on and off since birth. Ped suggested oversupply around week 2 and block feeding helped somewhat until a few weeks ago. Now we've had 3 episodes of dark green, mucous stools with flecks of blood. Stool culture was negative for infection. Ped doesn't really suspect MSPI because LO has no other symptoms, but I was thinking of eliminating dairy just to see.

So over the last few days, I've been scarfing all the dairy in the house to get rid of it in preparation to eliminate. Symptoms did not worsen, and actually seemed to improve - no green, no blood, less mucus. Then today I had coffee and saw green/blood again.

Any thoughts? Experience?
