@spaniellove: Oooh, good point. That's good that you weren't "locked in" with that particular clinic. That's a great tip, because if one decides to leave the clinic and go elsewhere they can without losing out financially.

@Jenn23: Aside from not qualifying, we decided we only wanted to commit to the one cycle. It wasn't until that cycle didn't work that we realized we might have an interest in a second, although financially we still weren't sure we could or wanted to do a second. I'm really glad we didn't commit to more than one with that clinic, because we were free to walk away and go somewhere else. And not being financially committed to another IVF cycle forced me to rethink my treatment options, which was actually a good thing.

@FliegepilzHut: Yep, that's what we did. We decided to just pay for the one cycle and it worked for us, but had it not, we would have had to pay all over again. So I can see why so many like the shared risk or peace of mind programs, and most do say that if it works the first time, you won't care that you spent the extra money! But it does work for many on the first time, so we just hoped it would for us and just spent the $15,000 for one cycle. Good luck making your decision. I know it is a hard one. I'm excited for you that you are going to do IVF. Perhaps we'll both go through it around the same time. :)

We didn't do this, because we hoped that we'd be successful within two tries and the cost would have been for two fresh cycles practically. So we just paid for 1 cycle. But I do see the benefit as women mentioned above to give you the peace of mind. My clinic offers this as well. I think it is a great idea, but just wasn't for us.

@FliegepilzHut: My clinic doesn't offer this, but if we didn't have insurance, I probably would have done this option if it was available to me. I think the peace of mind would have helped me greatly to get through my cycles. To me the money would have been worth it, even if my IVF cycle worked on the first try. Good luck!!!! :goodluck:

We did what our clinic called "Shared Risk." The cost covered 2 fresh cycles w/ICSI and FET's from however many embryos left from each cycle. If there was no take home baby after this, we could either have 50% of our money back, or another fresh cycle (and FET's with remaining embryos). Medications weren't included. For us, while it was a gamble, it was an easy decision to make. It really took some of the stress and pressure (as much as possible at least) out of the whole ordeal. Just knowing we had options if the cycle failed, gave me peace of mind. We transferred two, resulting in our twins. If you have any questions at all, let me know!

My clinic offers 'peace of mind' IUI and IVF programs. We will be doing the IUI program. As for IVF, we will probably have to revisit the idea and see.

@Mrs Green Grass: I could have sworn that I replied to you last night... That is very complicated. Thank you for sharing, though! I'm not sure I'd ever heard of identical triplets; hoe common or uncommon did your RE think that was?? Thanks again for the input!

@momazon: @spaniellove: It kind of feels like a gamble either way...but I can totally see the benefit of not having to worry/think about how to finance another cycle, should a first be unsuccessful. I guess I'll contact ten later in the week and try to get more information. Thank you, ladies!

@spaniellove: I think that's kind of true...the requirements were higher to qualify for it, but it definitely is still a risk on both sides.

I think it was 6 or 8k more, like $18 v $12, but I can't remember right now. My clinic had a 100% money back if you were under 35, a percentage less for every age bracket up...

I have a complicated story. I transferred two embryos (froze 6), one embryo split into identical trips and te other implanted as is was so we initially had 4 babies. One didn't not progress and we ended up reducing hbe pregnancy to a singleton. And I also went into labor at 23 weeks and had my son at 25 (no idea what the exact reason is).

So long story short, 1 cycle, 1 kid.

Just like @momazon said, I didn't want to have to be weighing monetary options if the first cycle failed.

I looked into it very briefly before our IVF and felt that they will only offer it to you if it is in their financial interest to offer it to you. In other words, if they're likely to make money on it.

I did it, and am so happy I did. For me, it has taken a ton of stress out of the process. The price for our program (which covers up to six fresh IVF cycles with ICSI and any related FET and offers a full refund if there is no live birth) was the same as the cost of two fresh IVF cycles with ICSI, so the decision was easy for us.

Our 2nd cycle resulted in a pregnancy, but I unfortunately miscarried-- not having to find another 11,000 to fund another single cycle (not including meds) helped keep the experience less devastating.

@Mrs Green Grass: Thank you very much! I guess I will contact them and see what they say... Do you remember how much money you would've saved on a second IVF, had it been necessary? BTW-- if you don't mind me asking, how many kiddos do you have as a result of your successful IVF?

I did it. It was just through my clinic. To me, taking off the stress of money if the cycle didn't work was worth it, buy of course ours did work the first time. I decided less stress was worth the money.

What I realized in the process is that clinics are business and they will negotiate if it makes business sense for them...

So, I saw a brief mention of this on a separate thread, but didn't get a good idea of how common the use of, for instance, Advanced Reproductive Care (ARC) "packages" for IVF is.

My understanding is that certain clinics have a relationship with this company, which will allow you to "insure" an IVF cycle with a (full or partial) money-back guarantee, and will offer you a rate up-front for 1, 2, or 3 IVF cycles, that would save you money IF (and only if) you wind up needing multiple cycles. It sounds to me a little like you're betting against yourself/your clinic... On the other hand, if the amount for two (up to two fresh/two frozen) were comparable enough to the out-of-pocket, pay-as-you-go rate for a single cycle, then I could see how this sort of arrangement would make sense.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Advice? The actual cost is not available online...they want to be contacted directly...so I'm stalling. :meh:
