My younger brother got his front teeth knocked out when he was 3. He didn't have teeth for almost 4 years but when the adult ones came there were no issues. He didn't need braces or anything.

And it was fine because most kids loose their teeth eventually, so I don't think anyone ever really noticed. He got the adult teeth around when other kids end up getting theirs.

I had my tooth knocked out when I was older than your lo. It was fine, I just had a gap for a while. Maybe because I was older and my adult tooth was already starting to move down, it did get scarred. So both of my adult teeth but mostly just one have bright white spots. They are definitely noticeable but not as bad if I keep my teeth whitened. I think the dentist said veneers would fix it but I don't really care about it.

I think its better that the tooth gets knocked out versus getting pushed up and damaging the adult tooth. My nephew had his baby damaged and it was grey and weird looking. They eventually just pulled it.

My son split his bottom tooth on a coffee table just before his second birthday. Since it was damaged we had to have it taken out. It healed fine and he just has a gap that isn't that noticeable unless you really look. They also recommended no spacer. They did say that it might take a bit longer for his adult tooth to come in since the gum would be tougher.
It really is more upsetting as a parent then it is for them.

A good friend's 3 year old knocked out both front teeth on a coffee table last year. Honestly, I don't think most people even think about it because it's so common to see kids without teeth and no one really thinks about at what age they should be when teeth are missing. My husband has asked her twice now about the tooth fairy and I've had to remind him that she doesn't know who that is. Ha ha. It's far more traumatic for the parents!

A friend of mine's son lost a front tooth at almost 3. He is really REALLY tall for his age (off the charts) so he just looks like he's already the right age to have lost a tooth.

@littlejoy: I'm sorry. I had my two front teeth knocked out in first grade while playing cops and robbers. I ran into a shorter boy's head. I was much older but my teeth were late coming in so I think it was three years before my adult teeth came in. I looked goofy and sang a lot of "all I want for Christmas is my two front teeth" but I was otherwise fine and that was with 80s technology.

My nephew knocked his out on the coffee table at 3 1/2, it was more upsetting for my SIL than it was for him. He looks absolutely adorable and she was over being upset after a little bit! The dentist said the same thing, to leave it as is and get the tooth fairy to make a visit.

The best part is that his twin brother saw how lucrative it was and started making plans to knock more of his brother's teeth out :silly:

Oh your poor LO! I don't have any experience but I'm sorry you have to go through this! My sister was just talking about this after her son fell and hit his mouth but the teeth weren't knocked out. She started reading about it anyway and was telling me what you just said. Hope your LO is feeling ok after all this.

Our LO had her front tooth knocked out at school today. She fell and hit her mouth on a table ... Pretty traumatic injury (cut lip, significant bruising to gums). Dentist explained long term ... We will not be replacing the tooth or adding a spacer, as she's 14 months, and we want to protect the adult tooth bud.

Anyone else have experience with their LO prematurely losing a tooth? Please tell me it'll just look goofy, and there aren't many other issues associated. I absolutely loved her little gap ... :( Her teachers did an amazing job soothing her, contacting us asap, and cleaning her lip. They even put her tooth into milk just in case.
