Does his dentist specialize in pediatrics? We got super lucky with the one we chose based on a neighbor's recommendation . . . they had "favorite characters?" on the new client info form and had DS's character of choice at the time -Daniel Tiger- paused on a TV above the chair before we walked into the room... they also let my son use one of the little motorized brushes to clean a stuffed animal's teeth. All of this went a long way to get him comfortable ... as did the post visit balloon ... and he BEGS to go to the dentist now.

SO basically what I'm saying I suppose is if the visit ISN'T what you hoped then maybe there is an awesome pediatric dentist near you that could still help!

And don't feel bad about the cavities! We know tons of family and friends who are exceptional and committed brushers and darn genetics / weird teeth grooves / etc just bring on the cavities anyway.

Good luck to you guys!!

@mrsbubbletea: thank you so much ❤️ We were able to reschedule so I'm going to up our teeth brushing game and start hyping him up (as much as we can) so DH can take him in a couple weeks. I'm so sad that he's so little and cavities are already a problem.

@hellocupcake: We put on a medication called silver fluoride that stops the cavity from growing. It has worked really well for him, I just carefully monitor his teeth and gums for any pain or sensitivity or signs of infection. The worst part of it is it's on his front teeth (and molars too) and it turns areas of cavity black : (

Unless you can reschedule it easily, maybe just try to do the cleaning after talking it up and preparing him the best you can. He might surprise you and they will be able to do the X-ray! We didnt get bite wings (I can barely tolerate those so I wasn't surprised) but he held super still for whatever the other front view is called. And even without X-rays, They can tell a lot from just looking at the teeth. Good luck! I know worrying about decay in your LO is the worst.

@mrsbubbletea: oh no; i completely forgot that I'm pregnant and can't be with him during xrays. DH works so I will probably have to reschedule. How do they have you monitoring the cavity? I'm mostly worried after Dr Google said stuff about cavities spreading infections into their blood stream or something like that :(

Lots of reading books where they go to the dentist (we have a curious george one) and I know there is a peppa one too. We just youtubed the peppa episode where they go to the dentist. I don't know of any where they have cavities though, I need one! We have been monitoring my son's cavities for about a year or a little longer and right around when he turns 3 at the end of the year, we are going to try to do the dental work. He'll get a mild oral sedative before, and then do laughing gas. They will have to strap him down too though for his and their safety : ( Not looking forward to it AT ALL but the alternative was general anesthesia!! He has really bad teeth thanks to my genetics : (

I'm pretty sure DS has two cavities. He's about to turn 3 in October; any tips to get him to have a successful visit? We scheduled a cleaning/X-ray appointment Monday and I want to make sure the dentist has a good chance of seeing what he needs to. DS was sick last month and didn't even like the doctor checking his temperature so I can't imagine someone invading his mouth will go over well...tips please...
