Alright here's an update.

My period started right around 3 days after I stopped taking the Provera for 10 days. So it worked just how it should!

But now I was on day 13 of my cycle (so 13 days after the start of my period) well, guess who got their period again?!?!?!?! WTH!! I'm on day 3 of this period now.....please tell me I won't keep getting my period every 2 weeks!!

@pui: @Mrs. Jump Rope: Okay, so I'm wrong to assume that it helps regulate. It's only job is to induce a period! Makes sense!

Hmm.... now here's to hoping that my body will somehow self regulate I guess?

@MrsBrewer: I think provera induces a period. My RE gave it to me on my second cycle in 2011. I think my period came about 10 days after my last pill!

@MrsBrewer: Hmmm... well the doctor may be thinking that your cycles are just long/irregular because you just recently got off BCP, so he isn't as concerned about regulating things since they could regulate by themselves.

I know how frustrating long cycles are... since it has been almost 4.5 months off BCP now, maybe if your next cycle is also long talk to your doctor about getting some blood work to check your thyroid, pituitary and maybe an ultrasound just to make sure everything is looking good?

@pui: Truthfully I don't know. I went on BCP when I was 15-16.....so they were still trying to regulate in general I think. I've been on the pill ever since :-(

As far as I know, Provera is not really meant to regulate periods, just to start one when one isn't coming. That said, maybe the dose of progesterone could help kick start things so that your next cycle is more "normal" after taking Provera?

What were your cycles like before BCP?

I was prescribed Provera today, because my first cycle off BCP was 61 days, and now I'm on my second cycle, and it's currently been 72 days waiting for my next period. I have my annual scheduled in March, so I can talk to my doctor more about it then. But for right now I called him just to discuss my crazy cycles, and he prescribed me this medication. He said to take it for 10 days, and within about a week, I should have my period. Then wait another month and a half, and I should get my next period, and if I don't take another 10-day dose of Provera.

So does Provera work to regulate your period? I know that it stabilizes your lining, and then once you stop taking it, is which make you get your period. But how does this work in the long run to regulate your period? Does it actually help, or would this just be a temporary fix? I'm clueless!
