Me and three of my best friends have all had SCHs. All of us have had positive outcomes (2 babies, and the other two are past 20 weeks with no more bleeding). Two of us were put on bedrest during bleeding episodes.

I had a small SCH with lots of spotting and a few bleeding "episodes" with cramping. The SCH went away around 10 weeks and I went on to have a healthy pregnancy/baby. My doctor put me on progesterone and said no sex/heavy lifting/etc but day-to-day activies were fine. I had ultrasounds twice a week in the beginning to watch it but it continued to shrink with each visit and quickly resolved itself. I'm sorry you are going through this :( it really sucks but hopefully you will have more answers soon. Good luck!

In my first pregnancy I had a moderate sized SCH, which they told me not to worry about because it wasn't too close to the baby. But it got bigger and I had a miscarriage almost a week later. We don't know if it was due to the SCH or if it would have happened anyway.

I had a moderately sized SCH found at around 6 weeks. I wasn’t put on bedrest, but was told no sex, no lifting at all, no exercise other than walking, and no other strenuous activity of any kind. I work in a corporate environment where I’m sitting most of the day, so I was fine to continue working.

I had a weekly ultrasound to monitor the SCH.

I can’t remember when it went away, but it was gone by 20 weeks.

I had both bright blood and brown blood bleeding and had a happy outcome.

I had a very large SCH with my second pregnancy, and did not have a good outcome... was on pelvic rest, stopped exercising, etc. Mine was VERY big, I had 2 major bleeding episodes where they thought I was going to lose the baby, had to see high risk doctor every other week. I think my outcome was the exception, and not common though.

Not trying to be a downer, but I don't really think I allowed myself to realize that it could negatively affect my pregnancy. Good luck to you! :goodluck:

I had one with my second pregnancy. I was told no working out, no picking up my then 1 year old, no sex, and to stay put as much as possible. I was put on progesterone for a long time. I discovered the bleed at about 7 weeks and stopped bleeding around 12 or 13 weeks. I went in for weekly checks and it was officially gone around 14 weeks.
I did bleed a lot, but everything turned out ok :)

FWIW when I had mine it was during the summer and I was a teacher, so I was home already. I think that's why I wasn't put on bed rest.

@MrsADS: I was put on pelvic rest, which meant no lifting over 5lbs, no sex, no orgasm, no strenuous activity, resting, etc. I had a 2.5yo and am a WAHM so I'm sure that influenced her decision. I was up and down all day long and lifting my kid, doing laundry, grocery shopping, and so on.

She had a very positive outcome though and told me not to stress about it.

Easier said than done. I did bleed a lot, regardless of the pelvic rest, and I did have cramping.

And, though the SCH went away by 11 weeks, I was diagnosed with placenta previa - so, I guess it's hard to tell how much bleeding (around the 9-10 week mark!) was caused by the SCH vs the previa.

@MrsADS: I worked as a teacher when mine happened, which meant little to no rest during the day. I think that influenced my ob's decision to take me out of work and put me on bed rest when the episodes of bleeding happened. Her decision may have been different if I had an office job that was mostly sedentary.

Yeah, I think you ladies are correct. I found this article:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12841015

I can only read the abstract, but it says: "Fewer spontaneous abortions and a higher rate of term pregnancy were noted in the bed-rest group. However, the lack of randomization and retrospective design of the outcome data collection preclude a definite conclusion. A large prospective randomized study is required to confirm whether bed-rest has a real therapeutic effect.

So, I think you could go either way.

@MrsADS: I agree with @ValentineMommy - I was told no special precautions, but I had a friend with an SCH same stage and size that was put on bedrest. I think it depends on the doctor. The studies I read were that there was no change in outcome bedrest or no bedrest, but the bedrest made the person feel like they were doing everything they could.

@MrsADS: I read online that there are two polar opposite schools of thought on SCH. One is that rest will help it heal and exerting yourself will agitate your uterus. The other is that there is really no "treatment" or anything you can do to heal it or prevent it, so no precautions are necessary...which is what my doc told me.

Wow, thanks everyone for sharing your experiences. I think it is interesting that most of you were told just to take it easy/continue with normal life- my RE was pretty strict and serious about laying down the rest of the day if I have any bleeding or cramping. Wonder why??

I had an SCH weeks 4 through 8. I am currently 26 weeks pregnant. It sucked at work for sure - I had an SCH, a slow heartbeat, and HG. I just pretended I wasn't pregnant because I didn't want to talk about it.

I have a SCH right now too. They told me mine was small and it was discovered at a 6.5w "emergency" ultrasound that my doc sent me for because I was having cramps as well. I haven't bled, but my doc told me not to be surprised if I do (I'm 10w4d). At my 8w appt with MFM, they told me it was so common that they wouldn't have even mentioned it to me and not to worry about it. They didn't put me on rest, but I have been taking it REALLY easy just in case. My cramps have since eased up.

I hope everything is ok! I joined an SCH group on FB to hear others stories about it and it's been really helpful (with lots of positive stories) It can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/160616890771669/

@MrsADS: I had a SCH that was found at my 8w scan. I had bleeding at 4w and my RE didn't find anything on ultrasound at 4w5d or at my 6w scan, and chalked it up to cervial irritation from my progesterone suppositories. I had a small SCH, though, and they didn't discover it until I went in for a routine 8w ultrasound.

It wasn't a huge deal to her. She said if this had been a routine pregnancy, it likely would have been reabsorbed before an OB had ever discovered it or I had my first ultrasound. I had my NT scan at 11 weeks and it was gone, so technically she was right. I have no idea if it bled out or if it was reabsorbed.

Mine was small. I think it was .5cm, and I was *shocked* at the amount of blood that I had for something that my RE kept reassuring me was so small and harmless. The amount of blood screaming "this isn't normal!" but, I'm nursing my 4m old, so...

Good luck! I know there are lots f other bees that had similar experiences. It's pretty scary to go through!

I'm about 7 weeks. Yesterday, I had some fairly bad (period-like) cramps, and a lot of bright red blood. Freaked out, went to the doctor. They said I have a few small pockets of subchorionic bleeding, the baby is fine.

I haven't bled anymore, but I am still having a lot of period-like cramps. It makes me nervous. My doctor told me if I have any cramps or bleeding, they want me to stay home on bedrest, or if it starts at work, come home right away. So I am going to have to tell my boss about this pregnancy at 7 weeks... :bummed:

Anyone have experience with this? Would love to hear your stories. They are going to check it weekly and they said it should go away in 2-3 weeks, hopefully. They also put me on magnesium pills 3x a day to relax the smooth muscle of the uterus (and I guess help with contracting/cramping).
