@Anagram: ah, great point. C is a super easy going baby, so we never had to deal with migrating blankets. I never even thought of that but I can understand your worry!

We had a March baby in Canada and I didn't bother with anything other than blankets and hats. I didn't want anything between her and the straps and we got so so so many blankets I just couldn't be bothered with another 'thing'. We also used blanets to form a 'car swaddle' where we'd just keep tucking and tucking to pin her arms down so she's sleep while in the car seat.

We used the shower cap one for DS last winter and I really liked it. I usually would tuck a blanket over him and then zip the cover on top. We walked him to and from daycare everything. We would also used the rain cover to keep out the wind.

I like the idea of the shower cap style over just blankets for the wind- both to keep her warm and so it won't blow off. So far we just use blankets but it is still mild she does look super cute bundled up in blankets though!

@Anagram: she definitely pulls the blanket to her face. I have t done it in the car yet.

We would just put LO in a fleece jacket over a long-sleeve shirt and then layer a blanket over him (tucked in under his arms) if putting the car seat in the car. He was pretty good with keeping hats on.

@Foodnerd81: This one also has good reviews and is the shower cap style--supposed to be warmer than the JJ cole. http://www.amazon.com/Jolly-Jumper-Arctic-Sneak-Infant/dp/B005LVNS4S/ref=pd_cp_ba_0

@mrs. bird: Thanks for the link! I recently took the Bundleme off of my registry since I had heard that they weren't safe for driving and I had no idea what to do instead other than layer and blankets. I like this option much better than layering.

@jessibear: was your LO a really calm baby? I've been using blankets just for the last week (it just got cold here) while I research what gear to buy and she constantly waves her arms around, flipping the loose ends of the blanket up in her face. Which worries me that she will suffocate---I just couldn't put her in the car seat with blanket over her while I'm driving alone in the front. Even with the stroller when I'm pushing it, the few times it's been cold and windy here this past week, I put a second blanket over the top of the stroller to keep the wind out, but when I peek down at her, she's pulled the other blanket over her face or up to her eyes acidentally (just working on grasping things now at 3 months).

So now I'm suddenly like....dang, I need something better than blankets! I have a philosophy of not buying anything in advance till I'm sure I need it--but then sometimes I get caught without something that suddenly I really need, like this. lol. ah well.

We went against the grain here and just used blankets and a warm hat and didn't buy a bundle me or any other kind of cover for our February baby.

The whole "how to keep baby warm" debacle really stumped me when I was pregnant because of all the products that contradict safety guidelines. After much discussion and woe, "just use a blanket" became shorthand in our family for any time I was over-complicating baby things. So it was said a lot!

All that being said, I completely agree that the shower cap style is very useful and at least you don't have to worry about it sliding down and dragging on the floor. However, the blankets are easily washable with regular laundry, which is something I really appreciate.

No LO yet, but based off of the fact that the full BundleMe isn't safe for use in the car seat (will not allow straps to get tight enough), we went with the shower-cap style and plan on using blankets if we click the seat over the the stroller.

We got the JJ Cole shower cap style one - http://jjcolecollections.com/car-seat-cover. The regular bundle me says it's been tested, but pretty much every car seat manufacturer says do not use after market products in between the baby and the seat.

We park my car in our garage too, which is fine temperature-wise when we leave the house - but when you come back home you're probably going to start out with a cold car. I plan to leave our cover on all the time, and just zip it down when we're inside. Or, if I really want to take it off and stow it in the stroller, it does go on and off and in about 2 seconds, so not big deal.

Ok that's what I thought! Maybe we will be using the toddler seat in the stroller by the end if the winter and I can use the hand me down one then, but I can ask for the other one for Christmas and hopefully get by with blankets until then.

go for one that doesn't go between LO & the carseat. the other kind shouldn't be used when you're driving in the car and it would be a PITA to take it off and switch to a different one when you drive. it was 33 out this am, so i think the cozy carseat season is upon us! and if it warms up, these kind are easy to pop off.

I had both, I learned pretty quickly that in a moment of stress, I couldn't remove or put on the original cover very quickly, so I used the shower cap style cover almost exclusively, car or no car ride.

yep you should get the shower cap style and pair it with a blanket. because the shower cap style is not as thick. The bundle me isntt safe for the car seat because it comes in between the baby and the seat and the harness has to be threaded through the bundle me cover which is expressly against the car seat safety instructions.

The jj cole bundle me seems super popular as winter gear for baby. But am I right that you cannot use it in the car seat in the car? It seems super annoying to take it off for the car and put it on for walks (we use the car seat in the stroller for walks. )

I have a hand me down bundle me, and our car is parked in a temperature controlled garage. Should I still get a "shower cap" style cover? Links?

It's not quite cold enough for these things yet but this is New England- it will be cold soon enough! C is 3 months so will be in the infant seat for most if the winter I would guess.
