@Mamasig: This was my experience. I'm not a TV person, but I thought I would get to read on mat leave...it definitely didn't happen with my high maintenance first born, and it didn't happen again with a toddler and newborn!

It took me a while to get to th point that I could watch tv while he napped. Partly because he started sleeping longer stretches and partly because I started giving myself some slack. For the first couple of months all I did was chores and baby stuff. Once I became ok with dishes sitting in the sink for a few hours or till the next morning, it became a lot easier!
I ended up not going back to work. So in reality, I may not have watched much if I was just home for maternity leave. Since it took me a couple months to get to that point.

I wasn't a huge TV watcher before baby, but I really can't watch anything now. If I did have time when LO was nursing longer (when she was younger) I opted to read baby/nursing books or something on my phone. These days she's usually done in ~5-7 min so I definitely opt for surfing on my phone. The rest of the day there's just way too much to get done. I am either going going going or sleeping.

I didn't watch much during maternity leave, except for Jeopardy during the one pumping session after J went to bed, and that was all I could handle. I didn't care if I missed something and it was short.

I did, however, watch a bunch during pumping breaks for the rest of the year. It was the only way I could zone out and not be stressed about work.

I have a baby who loves to eat, needs a lot of sleep, and will only nap on me. Most of her naps now, at 4 months, are in a carrier while I get stuff done and work as a nanny. The early days though, we spent a lot of time on the couch.

I watched a ton of TV while the baby was nursing or napping, which was the majority of the day. I'd imagine that's harder with twins though!

@bluestriped bee: I am sure having twins is much harder!!! DS is 3 weeks old today and sleeps/rests in his bouncer most of the day (except for eating) so I am watching a lot of Friends on Netflix ... I suppose I could start a new show but I actually prefer something familiar at this point in my sleep-deprived life!

I watched a ton of tv in the newborn days with my twins. They'd marathon nurse/nap/nurse/nap for hours at a time and I'd veg out in the middle of the double breast friend pillow and watch tv. I'd also nap in that thing too. I couldn't watch anything that requires a lot of concentration or attention, though. I could only watch things that I could fall asleep in the middle and when I woke up I could still follow what was happening. Ha!

There were days he would just nurse and sleep on me and I could watch some tv and then there were days when we were out and about a lot because it was summer. And then there were days when there was no pleasing him and thus no tv!

With my second I nursed and watched tv when the older was in school (twice a week). He was a much more chill baby.

@bluestriped bee: I had twins and when I tandem nurse that was a while and when they would fall asleep on me sometimes that was the only break I had or the only time they would give me longer naps. So I would sit there for their naps and after nursing and got a few netflix shows in at a time. Also because they were preemies, the first week home I didnt sleep because I was so busy watching them breathe because I was use to those machines. So I would watch some shows at night while I watched their chest go up and down. I was a little crazy in the beginning.

Except for when he had his witching hour at 6pm, DS mostly just slept and ate. I'd sit most of the day on the couch watching tv. A lot of the time he'd fall asleep on me, and it was safer just to leave him there. So I'd often have a 3 hour period where I was just glued to the couch.

The TV was always just background noise for me. I'd turn it on when I got downstairs and roll from Let's Make a Deal to Price is Right to News, Who wants to be a Millionare to THe Chew. Most days I would DVR the Chew so I could get out of the house a bit and save that to watch while I was waiting for Hubs to get home.

My LO was a big comfort nurser- nursing sessions could easily be 45 minutes long. And on the days when she just wouldn't nap is let her nurse for her whole nap- like an hour and a half. So I watched TV while nursing until she started noticing. I imagine it's way harder with two, or if you are pumping or bottle feeding.

Last time I watched almost the entire series of Parenthood (about as deep and involved as I could handle- HTGAWM would be way over my sleep deprived head back then!) This time around I anticipate a whole lot of Daniel Tiger...

During my last maternity leave, I watched a lot of tv during naps in our bedroom while LO #2 slept in the family room or his brother's old room. I usually watched it on the iPad or computer. I spent most of my maternity leave catching up on Nashville which took forever before Hulu introduced commercial free option.

With his brother's maternity leave, I watched a lot of tv during late night nursing sessions or early morning wakeups. I loved early wakeups where we would play, eat, watch tv, and then by the time DH woke up, we were ready to nap.

@T.H.O.U.: Oh, mindless TV. I do that with when I watch the Nanny, since I don't mind if I miss part of it. I tried catching up with HTGAWM and it was so hard. I was almost tempted to put the subtitles so I didn't have to pause it every time one of the babies cried. Ehh, I gave up on it. TV doesn't really interest me anymore. I actually prefer the TV off.
