I agree that it sounds like strong letdown/oversupply. My daughter did the same from about 4-8 weeks, and it gradually improved as my supply regulated. If possible, try to avoid pumping too much since you're triggering you body to make more milk. I know it can get uncomfortable for both mom and baby though.

Sounds like strong letdown and/or oversupply. My DD was like this around 6 weeks or so (though not as bad as yours!) I did everything I could to manage the letdown (see pointers on kellymom.com) and it really improved around 10-12 weeks.

@Beebug: Sounds like you have a really strong let down and/or an abundent supply of milk. If you are able to feel your let downs (or first hear LO swallowing) you can delatch LO and let the initial milk flow out onto a wash cloth. Either that or pump a few minutes before breast feeding.

@autumnlove: @MrsKoala:

Thanks ladies. I hope it passess, I kind of think it could be a let down thing, poor guy, but suppose it's something I shouldn't complain about, just hope he doesn't have to suffer much longer and I ease out supply wise.

It's happened a couple times and my theory is that it had something to do with overactive letdown. He kind of choked on it and then spat everything back up all over me.

Ugh, this was how my LO 2 was for the first 5-6 weeks. I had to change my clothes and sheets several times a day but her dr was never concerned.

It never happened again after the 6th week so I think my letdown slowed down or her appetite grew.

Hugs!!!

Does anyone's LO ever have explosive pukes while nursing?

I didn't have this with my first, and it's beginning to happen more often (he is almost 7w).

He will be nursing and suddenly be puking out his nose, mouth, and more liquid/breast milk thank I could imagine is spewing out of him. He panics of course, and it's no fun at all.

Tried burping him more often, pumping before feeding. There isn't a trend in time of day, which breast, or anything that way. At first I thought he was startling himself when near falling asleep, but he's done it wide awake too.

I'm not sure if it's because he's congested? He's been congested nearly a month now, our whole house is one big bad cold.

I will make sure I mention this at his next appt in a couple weeks.
