NO WAY! I wouldn't risk letting my LO infect other kids.

@brownie: Oh, both kids going to the same school does make a difference to me. If the germs are already at day care your LO won't be contaminating anybody else.

@brownie: I don't know, it's tough! I would be upset, but it's on me for not getting my son vaxed regardless of the daycare's policy, you know?

I would still send him!

Like a PP mentioned just tell the teacher that he was around some kids who got sick and to keep an eye on him!

Exposed is not the same as actually having it, so I would just send LO. I mean, you're exposed to stuff all the time.

I wouldn't bother with a flu shot at this point. Also, Tamiflu only treats the symptoms of flu, I thought? But if the flu is really that bad for him he needs to get it in sept/oct, BEFORE the season hits. I guess this totally depends on wehre you live.

I would wash their clothes and the toys really well, though, and sanitize what I could to kill the germs that are live, now, though.

@psw27: we need the shot anyway.
@looch: would it make a difference if both kids go to the same school? So the school has already been exposed as well.

I think as long as you and the daycare are paying extra close attention to if he develops symptoms, there's no reason he can't still go if he's feeling healthy.

Is your son vaxed for the flu?

Well, in order for my son to attend daycare, he needs to have the flu shot, so, given that his second shot was the beginning of the month, I'd feel okay if your son was exposed and came to daycare.

If my son didn't have the flu shot and he became sick, I'd be annoyed, yes, but that's on me.

That is tough. I would base my decision on whether or not I thought LO would get the flu.

If the kids chewed on the same toys all day, had their fingers in each others' mouths and you're just counting the minutes until the fever starts I would keep LO home. If the kids just played in the same room without sneezing or coughing then I would probably send LO to daycare.

Two weeks off work sucks but I wouldn't want to do it to all the daycare families.

Tough situation...I'd probably just monitor him and see how it goes. He might end up dodging it all together.

I'm not a medical person at all, but I would just add that I don't think getting the flu shot after exposure is going to help very much. I think it takes 2 weeks to build up the immunity post-shot. It might also overwhelm their immune systems to try and fight the live virus and the dead virus (in the shot) at the same time. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong medical Bees!

That is a crummy situation, I am really sorry you are in that position. I would send him but give the school a heads up and tell them to call you even if he only seems off. Hopefully they can step up there germ fighting steps. Ideally, you would keep him home but it is just impossible for everyone to do that every time. Fingers crossed you guys somehow miss this!

So yesterday we babysat for our friends kids. Nothing was wrong until after nap when the little girl started to run a fever. When my hubs took it it was extremely high so off the the ER (no urgent care on weekends). Well the tests came back and it is influenza. Hubs is planning on getting a flu shot and tamiflu today (the flu could literally kill him). And we may get lo a flu shot as well.

My question is, we know he is exposed to the flu do we send him to school until he gets sick or keep him home? If he gets sick that is 2 weeks off work and school if we keep him home starting now.
