@wheres_c: me too, my brother and I grew up on a goat farm, in all honesty I'm far less worried about my little guy getting dirty on a farm than at a playground during cold and flu season! I stand by a little dirt and poop being better for the immune system than a perfectly clean house ;)

Bring a bottle of hand sanitizer with you and a blanket to put him down on and you should be ready.

@T.H.O.U.: ah thank you! Great advice. I think people mostly take off their shoes in the mud room, since it gets messy out there...but I know there are some occasions where this doesn't happen. I will try not to put him down, but will bring a blanket just in case.

I have a habit of petting all the animals, I will have to be extra cautious myself.

@lemondrop: thanks! He won't be running around for another year, and then I will be in for trouble. I remember I used to play hide and seek and jump from the top of the haystacks.

When I am at my MIL I take some extra precautions. I will hold her when outside but I don't pass her off to other people. They have a habit of like petting a horse and then wanting to come hold LO which I'm not ok with.

Also, be careful about shoes in the house. If people are outside walking around where there is animal poo and don't take their shoes off before coming into the house, then I would not put LO down on the ground.

We have goats and a pig and have never worried about anything in particular. Being in the veterinary profession we have a pretty good handle on zoonotic diseases and the health status of our animals. The main things we do is wash hands afterwards and give a bath and clean clothes before bed. Your LO isn't running loose in the middle of a bunch of animals, so I personally wouldn't be too worried.

Ask your ped, but it sounds to me like you're probably good. My parents have a farm and none of the parents of children in the family have ever taken any extra special precautions.

Bumping for you but have you asked your ped yet if there's anything you should be concerned about immunization wise?

Anything special I should consider about taking my LO to a farm?
I will hold him around any animals as well as use sanitizer frequently as to prevent E. coli and salmonella.

Is there anything else I should consider? I plan on taking him to my aunts farm (horses, cows, pigs, sheep, ducks) and maybe my cousins farm (ostrich, emus, llamas, other exotic animals)
