@MamaJ: that's about the time frame i'll be going... i might just see how it goes, but bring back up in case. i would LOVE for it to go well and know i don't HAVE to pump if i miss her nighttime feeding. i feel like it would free me up!

@birdofafeather: I usually nurse him before his nap around 1pm. Then I skip bedtime session and nurse in the morning. He usually wakes around 8am. So 19 hours give or take depending on when he wakes.

I didn't pump after I was officially "done pumping" and would occasionally miss a feeding, I don't remember it being an issue maybe I felt fuller by the next feeding but not engorged. I probably went 6-7 hours and was fine. In your situation though with it being bedtime/overnight you might want to pump before you go to bed if you are uncomfortable.

Once he was a year, I stopped pumping if I missed a session and my supply was always fine and I wouldn't get engorged. I would just see how it goes. I don't think missing one session will hurt your supply but if you get uncomfortable, you can pump.

@birdofafeather: Yes, I have. I was out Friday night and was definitely engorged, especially since M-F, I usually only nurse 2x a day. She woke up when I got in around 1 and I leaked all over the both of us when she was nursing. I never expect that to happen anymore but it does.

@MamaJ: how long do you go then without nursing on the nights you miss?

@hilsy85: not worried about supply. only worried about waking up in the middle of the night full! ha.

@mrsjazz: did you deal with engorgement ever?

@skipra: yeah, she's had all types of alternative milks no problem. i will probably bring a hand pump and just play it by ear.

Nope, once I stopped pumping at work that was it. If I wasn't home at bed time a missed a session, I didn't pump. But then again I've never really had problems with leaking/engorgement.

I wouldn't but I haven't had to go that long. I'm also pregnant and feel like I don't really have anything left. Is your LO drinking something else like cows milk? If so maybe just bring the pump in case you get uncomfortable?

Once I stopped pumping, I stopped pumping! So if I missed a nursing session, I just missed it and it was fine. I only nurse in the mornings, nights, and weekends now. If I get home after LO has gone to bed she normally wakes up at some point to nurse anyway but I have gone a full day without nursing and was fine.

Do you think your supply might dip if you don't? I didn't extend BFing, but it's something that a few of my friends worried about, so they always pumped if they had to miss a session.

Hmm I think the longest I've gone when I was still nursing more than 2x a day was 8 or 9 hours? And I was totally fine. However, better to be safe than sorry, and you're going to be gone a while, so I would bring maybe a hand pump in case you get uncomfortable?

ETA you're not worried about supply right? Just being uncomfortable?

I've never miss 2 nursing sessions, just one. But I am gone 2 nights/week workings and DH puts LO to bed. I don't pump anymore on those nights. I think I stopped just before he turned a year.

We are also nursing 3 times per day. I am not sure what I would do if I missed two. Maybe pump once? I don't feel full ever anymore though.

I haven't experienced this yet, but I think if I wanted to continue nursing, I probably would try to pump for missed sessions. Or at least one of them if you were going to miss two! But I've not dealt with this quite yet...

LO is 13.5 months and we're nursing 3 times a day. I WAH most of the time, so i haven't pumped in a couple months. i have a wedding in a couple weeks though so i'm going to be gone for 2 of her nursing sessions. i know i can nurse her before her nap instead of after to take care of one nursing session, but i'm still going to miss the bedtime session. since LO STTN now, i would end up going almost 20 hours without a feeding if i didn't pump. (now that i'm typing this out, i realize i probably do need to pump at some point!)

If you BF past a year, did you pump if you missed a nursing session? How long was the longest you could go without being engorged/risk your supply?
