Another vote for Floradix! It's a much better absorbed form, and it was prescribed to me as a teen when I had anemia. It got my levels up very quickly.

@mrs. bird: I've heard awesome things about valerian root for sleep - never tried it myself though (I have the opposite problem...I can fall asleep anywhere, at any time). My husband takes melatonin, and we've used Sleepytime tea, too. I had B12 injections for a long time, too - its amazing what a difference they made!

Hope you're feeling better soon!

I agree with adding iron and making sure you have a good balance of other vitamins like C to help with iron absorption.

@mrs. bird: I think it's recommended to take a full hour before your desired sleep time. And regularly. At one point I was taking two instead of one to get the desired effects (don't remember the mg). You can take valerian root at the same time. I also had luck with kava tea (very relaxing, yogi brand)

@cmomma17: oddly enough, i through a bottle of melatonin in a box of his things today because it has helped him in the past, but never really worked for me. i've read it works better when you're resetting your clock, like for travel or time change. can't hurt to give it another try though! i'll go dig it out of the box :) thank you!

@looch: interesting, do you think that type of iron was absorbed better than others? right now i'm taking two flinstone vitamins each day, each has 100% of your iron, but i have always been border line anemic so i was taking two (it's safe to take two, you can do that if you don't tolerate prenatals, they make me vomit). the reviews on amazon sound like ppl have really positive experiences taking that type of iron, i'd never heard of it before!

@CupQuakeWalk: <3

@redsmarties: i just happen to take b12 injections! :D i have a deficiency, so now i just need to do them monthly, maybe i should do an extra this month though. i had to do them weekly for a long time before i got my level up to an acceptable one. i will work on the rest thing, it's just so hard, i wish i could rest :( i might need to cave and take something, even just some benadryl to see if it helps until i get in a better sleep pattern. i should get more vallarian root, too! have you ever taken that?? it's fabulous for helping with relaxation and sleep.

@swedishfish: thank you!

I took an iron/B12 combo, and ate a bunch of high iron foods. For awhile, I had B12 injections to help with energy too. Also, and this seems like a no-brainer, but rest. Your body needs to replenish your blood stores!

I found that Floradix helped a lot, I took it in liquid form with orange juice to increase absorption and it doesn't cause the constipation issues that can occur with other iron supps. I tried to eat high iron foods, but let's face it, it's not always possible to change your diet.

Hoping you feel better soon.

I'm so sorry; no experience with this. But, iron will ALWAYS help with blood loss and lack of energy (as I am sure they are related in your case. Get better :)

I'm guessing since there are so many mamas on here many of you have bleed for an extended period of time. Did you find any vitamins or supplements helpful? I'm on day 36 of bleeding post op from uterine surgery, no, that's not normal but they said we don't start to really worry for another wk or two. I'm on birth control & took estrogen for a month, both of which should have helped to slow/stop the bleeding. It's not anything like it was before when I was literally soaking an through an overnight pad all the way to my ankles trying to get from the dr's office home (less than an hour), now it's more like a light period, still need a tampon, but not a heavy flow. I just feel lousy physically & tired (some of which is not related) but I can't help but think that bleeding for so long is part of why I feel so drained. Also I'm really just sick of bleeding, it's a reminder that's much like rubbing salt in an open wound.

Anything help you rebound? Iron? Regular multi vit? Something else?
