@periwinklebee: I hate traditional white noise but we have this machine that has different sounds. I really like the ocean and the brook. We use both of those with my boys.

https://www.amazon.com/Homedics-Portable-Relaxing-Soothing-Charging/dp/B00A2JBMRE/ref=sr_1_4_s_it?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1537214128&sr=1-4&keywords=white%2Bnoise%2Bmachine&th=1

We also went through a phase with my oldest where he wanted to be up for hours at night. I really don't remember how long it lasted, I just know that it sucked.

Ugh my first kid did this around this age too. We ended up putting the pack n play in our room next to the bed and putting her in it in the motn and usually she would end up rolling around and sort of entertaining herself but eventually just falling back asleep as long as I had like one arm in the pnp or she was right next to us and could see us or something like that. It will pass!!

@annem1990: I remember your post about pulling up awhile ago, and of course responded that it's a phase, but now that my kid has started doing this a lot, I'm like "sleep is gone forever"!!! :silly: White noise is a constant dispute in our house. It genuinely drives my husband crazy, he thinks it is the most obnoxious sound ever (and of course since our condo is small it can be heard from everywhere all evening), but I swear it helps. I just got a white noise machine with nineteen different fan sounds, in the hope one of them would be tolerable. The fact that people here find it helpful inspires me to persist in finding a solution that works for LO w/o driving DH up the wall :silly:

Ugh so frustrating! No advice other to say we've been through so many random stages like this that do end!

In the meantime just to keep sanity, can you and your DH switch off sleeping on the couch or something once he wakes up? So at least you're getting a full night of sleep every other night? Also, ALL THE WHITE NOISE!!

@MaryM: I wish, it's a narrow closet with bifold doors (too narrow for the crib...) I would totally use a WIC as a baby room if we had one! Lol, and we only have one bathroom, so that also doesn't work...

@MamaBear87: It wouldn't be ideal to have him in the living room in the evening, since it's open to our kitchen and we don't manage to cook and eat dinner until after he's in bed. If the crib was on wheels I could try sneaking it out when we went to bed, though come to think of it, that's probably not great either...And my husband has already claimed the couch, so I'm stuck with the baby :silly:

Probably we just need to move to a bigger place. But I sort of dread it since it means a worse commute...

@periwinklebee: it probably isn't that heavy. I'd just move it. Closet or living room. (My little lived in our closet for her first 4 months 😂)

How big is your closet? Can you move him in there for now? (My brother and SIL put my godson in their walk in closet around this age)

@periwinklebee: does his crib roll? Can you move it into the living room while he goes through this regression? That's what I would do to hope it makes it pass more quickly as he'll have less to do when he gets up

@nwm: @IRunForFun: Thank you, this is super good to hear! I can handle a temporary regression.

Right now we are in a one bedroom, so LO's crib is at the foot of our bed :meh: It's times like these that make me desperate to move asap, but then I remember that our commute will inevitably be worse, and you can't win :silly: I don't think it helps that he can see us trying to sleep. I alternate between putting him in his crib to let him crawl around and trying to soothe him back to sleep if he starts to get hysterical because he wants someone to play with him.

Mine did this around this age, maybe closer to 9 or 10 months. I've heard it's pretty common when they're practicing their new skills. Since she wasn't upset or crying I just left her to it in her crib and went back to sleep myself. I turned the sound off on the monitor, which worked for us because our rooms were close enough that I'd still hear her if she started crying. Eventually I guess she got bored with her new skills because she stopped doing it. I'm very much in the camp of just leaving her to her own devices if she wakes up MOTN as long as she isn't crying.

We had this issue at this age...I think there is commonly a sleep regression around nine months because they’re so excited about all their new skills and that sounds just like what you’re describing! It passed for us pretty quickly but was definitely way more painful than wakings for feedings (which we had only just kicked when it happened). Hope it’s over soon for you!! FWIW that was our last really bad sleep regression (knock wood).

My 8 month old has been having more extended night wakings lately. Like waking up at 3:30 and not going back down for a couple of hours. He goes into his crib awake at bedtime and naptime, and on nights where he doesn't have an extended night waking, sleeps well, so it's not that he doesn't know how to fall asleep. I'm pretty sure it's not that we're expecting him to sleep too long at night, because when this happens if I let him he'll sleep a couple of hours later than normal. He is not that into eating while awake either, so that doesn't seem to be the issue. He basically is determined to get up and play, crawling all over the place, trying to pull himself up, squealing and babbling in delight... We keep all lights out and minimize talking to him, besides to periodically softly say that it's time to sleep.

It's really killing my ability to feel like a functional human being. Anyone have similar issues at this age? I'm really hoping it is a stage - my husband often wakes up in the middle of the night and can't go back to sleep for a couple of hours. Of course, I worry that LO has inherited this and I'll never sleep again :meh:
