@Mrs. Pajamas: I quit about 3 weeks ago now when I had a week-long workshop for work that would have made it hard to take a pumping break anyway, and it’s been great! Conveniently, daycare moved her from sleeping in a crib to a cot at the same time, and she started rejecting her pre-nap bottle anyway. She still loves nursing morning and night, and on weekends during the day too. I think my supply may have dipped, but she’s happy to nurse still and eats well so I think it’s fine. It’s so nice to have that time back in my work day!!

@nana87: just wanted to check in and see if you made a decision. I'm still really struggling with quitting the pump and having so much anxiety about DD2 wanting to quit if I quit. I wish I knew how to just relax and go with the flow. Ugh.

Both times I stopped pumping right at a year. It didn’t affect my supply and I was able to continue to nurse. I couldn’t wait to ditch the pump!

@Mrs. Pajamas: haha, great minds!! it's so crazy how it seems like lo2 nurses so much on days we're together and then I pump so little, I so feel you at being frustrated w/ 2oz pumps!

@MamaCate: thank you! :heart:

@josina: lol these Feb 2017 babies with their opinions! ;) lo2 DEF knows what she wants and when she wants it, and it's usually whatever lo1 or I have!

I quit pumping just after 12 months, and have been slowly dropping nursing sessions. 16 months was 2-3 times a day.
At 17 months we are down to just 1 night wake-up and I'm still hoping she quits on her own!
I do have to give bottles of WCM instead of nursing (she's a very opinionated little girl, lol!) so weaning from bottles will be another issue I'm sure!

~ So with that, quit pumping, you should still be able to nurse. :)

I stopped pumping at 12 months and nursed til 14 months, but my supply dropped pretty quickly and she self-weaned I think because there was no/very little milk left. But I also got pregnant again at 12 months, so I'm not sure if it was that or the pumping that affected my milk more. Probably the combination!

@nana87:
1. You are awesome for pumping that long! I was so ready to stop once I got to 12 months.

2. It sounds to me that you know what you want to do. I would trust your gut.

For more anecdotal support: I have two kids and stopped pumping/day weaned around 12/13 months. I nursed wake up and bedtime for both until about 22 months with the first and 24 months with the second. It was less about nutrition in the toddler year but it worked for us. I stopped nursing the little one almost exactly a year ago and I was definitely uncomfortable so I know there was still milk there! I just dealt with it and it passed in a couple days.

@nana87: thanks so much for posting...I was logging in to write the exact same post!! For DD1 I went down to 1 pump/day at 13 months and then quit pumping at 16 mo. She nursed until 22 months morning/bedtime. DD2 is 12 months and I just went back to work and am so frustrated with my pumping output (2oz/pump) that I'm considering stopping but also really sad that it could affect nursing. DD2 nurses a bit more frequently than DD2 did but she's so efficient and doesn't nurse to sleep so it is hard to compare. Others are assuring me it will be fine but wanted you to know I'm right there with you!

I stopped pumping when DD was 10 months because she stopped taking bottles during the day. I was only working 2 days per week. I started back full time when she was 18 months and not nursing during the day didn’t impact her (or me).

I stopped pumping at 16 months when I went on summer vacation (teacher). My LO couldn’t do WCM so that was partly why I continued to pump past a year. My intent was to daywean her over that summer but it never really happened, went back to work in the fall and she did fine going cold turkey on milk during the day. We nursed am/pm (except more on weekends for a while) and eventually just pm from then on until she was about 2 years 3 months. No supply issues.

Unless you’ve had a lot supply problems I would not worry at all about it affecting your supply. Mine always adjusted fine when we dropped down sessions.

I think your supply will be fine! I stopped pumping at just over a year with DD1, and nursed 1x/day from 12-15 months. I quit because she was over it (probably because I was pregnant) and I was going on a trip for three days so it was a fairly easy break.

DD2 is still nursing 1x/day (at wakeup) at 20 months. I pumped 2x/day at work until she was a year, then 1x/day at work from 12-14 months, then stopped pumping. From 14-18 months she still nursed at wakeup and bedtime and got frozen milk during the day, and from 18 months til now she's been nursing at wakeup only. She doesn't seem to have any issue with what she's getting.

Long-winded way to explain my first sentence: I think you're in the clear if you stop pumping!!

I stopped pumping at 12 months as well and we are still nursing at almost 17 months. My supply has only really decreased to barely anything within the past few weeks, but I attribute that to working out more and other added life stress. I LOVE not pumping and not having to do that anymore. I am hoping to wean soon as I'm so over the night wakeups. lol

I stopped pumping at 15 months but nursed my son at morning and bedtime until he was 38 months. I didn't notice a drop in supply and we transitioned gradually with my freezer stash to wcm for naps. It was so so so freeing. Also, I found that I could skip occasional bedtimes without problem, especially if I nursed him in the late-afternoon (for dates, classes, etc).

I stopped pumping during the day at work around 15 months. and would only pump when i worked late (i would start to feel it). I stoped pumping at all around 18 or 19 months and I have not noticed any difference in supply from our nursing. We still nurse a lot when I am home and on work days we nurse evenings, night, twice in the am.

I stopped pumping at 16mos. I'd been getting only 2-2.5oz when I pumped. I took a weeklong vacation with LO where he nursed on demand (or rather, mostly didn't) during the day. When I went back to work I got less than 1/2oz and quit.

I stopped pumping (3x per day) around 12 months, but continued to nurse for a few more months. My supply just adjusted to only when needed - morning/night, then just to night.

It can be a little uncomfortable because you will still have boobs full of milk, I think I pumped a little to relieve pressure a few times that first week. So I would just have your pump handy just incase.

@Mrsbells: she does drink water and wcm from a straw or sippy cup (or an open cup, with lots of spilling lol). breastmilk is the only thing she gets in a bottle, and no bottles when she's home/with me. lo1 was a monster to wean from bottles since we used them way more-- she def preferred to drink from them over cups, so weaning her from them was so hard--worse than actual weaning! we've been more careful with lo2 and she definitely isn't as attached to the bottle as lo1 was

If you nursed into toddlerhood and worked out of the home, when did you stop pumping?

Lo2 is 17 months and still nursing, and I still pump 1x/day; she takes what I pump (only 2.5-3oz) for a bottle before her nap. I don't think she needs the milk to sleep, as at home she will fall asleep with dh without it, and I have a decent freezer stash anyway that means she could still take a bottle at nap for two weeks or so. I don't want to mess up my supply, but those 3 oz aren't that big anyway! Next week I have a workshop from 9-3 each day, so it'll be tricky to pump. I kind of want to take the opportunity to stop pumping...

With lo1, I stopped pumping regularly sometime around 1ish, but we had combo-fed so she took bottles of wcm still. We stopped bottles around 17m, and she still nursed until 22m. So, sort of comparable, but I really don't remember when I stopped pumping or how exactly I decided to stop.

I know it's probably time to stop pumping, but I just worry about it affecting my supply!
