I bought a down coat for $70 at Motherhood last month and have worn it daily. It's been worth every penny and I anticipate wearing it until late February or early March (until weather warms up) I can't stand the cold so leaving my coat open was not an option.

Would you be able to wear your husband's coat? I've been wearing my husband's hoodies around and it's so comfy because it's huge on me. Good luck!

Thanks, ladies. I also thought about buying a windproof fleece to wear underneath and not button things. But definitely checking out some discount stores and thrifts stores are also great advice.

I second MerryC's idea of thrift stores. Also, if you had a crafty friend, could they create a panel that would attach to where it currently zips/buttons and also on the other side? I've never seen something like that, but it ought to work, like an extension panel?

I'd probably try to make due with doubling up on thick scarves and leaving the coat unbuttoned if it's only a matter of a few weeks. But I don't live where it's super duper cold anymore.

If you want a bigger coat, could you look at Goodwill or other thrift stores? They often have maternity sections, or would definitely have larger sizes. I'm sure you could find something for like $10. Might not be the most stylish, but would keep you warm :)

I don't know what I'm going to do! I'm just about 20 wks and probably can fit into my long down coat for another month....hoping longer b/c I don't want to buy a new one! I'm hoping to not get large large until March and then maybe get a heavier spring coat instead. Boston is cold until April!!

My winter coats are all pretty form fitting/slim cut so some of them won’t button already. I have a very long and wide scarf, and on very cold days I just wrap the scarf around my neck/face, then flatten it out around my front so it covers where the coat doesn’t (hope this makes sense). I don’t do any outdoor activities though, so I only need to be protected basically to/from my car/buildings.

Where do you live? Maybe winter will end soon – it’s been a very tame winter so far where I am! (knock on wood!!)

I'm in Florida so I'm not helpful when it comes to coats. But I feel like a baby in your belly is a good heat source, could you get away with leaving it unzipped.

I just leave my coat unbuttoned (it's form-fitting so it hasn't fit right for a few weeks now). I wear a wool scarf and a wool hat and I'm ok. I don't have a long walking commute to work, though. That would probably make me consider a different coat.

It would depend on the weather where I lived and the length of time I spent outdoors. We have fairly mild (to me) winters where I live, and the only outside time I spend in the winter is walking from my car to my office/gorcery store etc so If I couldn't zip my jacket any longer I'd just belt it and call it a day. My BFF actually moved the buttons on her wool coat to accomodate her growing bump, and plans on just moving them back to their original position for next year.

I ended up buying a wool coat from Motherhood Maternity. It was great since I delivered in December, but it's not the best quality. In preparation for being pregnant again at some point ;) I've been shopping around for a simple, long down coat in a larger size and I found one on crazy clearance at TJ Maxx. It's a slim-cut coat, so even though there's plenty of space inside the coat, it doesn't look crazy big.

If you were around this area I'd recommend Frugal Fannie's-- they're having crazy sales on outerwear and they have a great selection. But I think it's only local to Boston.

I saw some down coats at BJ's that looked ok, and they had belts so you could cinch it in later.... that could be an option too?

Good luck!

I have 6 more weeks to go before the LO arrives, but I think I may only have a few more weeks left on my winter coat. It currently zips, but it's tight. I looked on sites like Old Navy to try to find a cheap winter/down coat, but they either looked cheap or didn't seem warm at all. I don't want to splurge on another winter coat that I probably won't wear again in a larger size, any creative suggestions?

Winter pregnant ladies, what are you doing?
