We will leave the base in my car and use the car seat without the base for the fewer occasions that my husband or my mom will transport the baby. My mom and I were discussing her getting a convertible car seat (in addition to one that we purchase) to use when she watches the baby after my maternity leave. DS was in daycare and we switched cars often, but usually just used the carseat without a base in DS's car (with the seatbelt). I learned how to install it with the seat belt, so if we needed to change cars we did that.
