Otherwise you only take the 800mcg or thereabouts. When she went for her last Dr's appt and told her she was trying to conceive, the doctor prescribed a 5mg dosage of folic acid, on top of the prenatal she was taking. Now I'm worried that I'm not taking enough folic acid! Has anyone else been prescribed extra folic acid? Was there a reason or is it doctor specific preference?</p> <p>Of note: her brother has down's syndrome so I'm wondering if the dr prescribed it because she has a family history of chromosomal issues... but down's is random (to the best of my knowledge) so it doesn't make sense to me but that is my best guess... any thoughts? </p>
