@Adira: I just saw your post about Xander's upset stomach last night. I have no idea what it could have been but I'm so happy he's feeling better this morning. What an ordeal!

@Mrs. High Heels: He does seem to be in a MUCH better mood this morning! He had two big poops, so I'm hoping that whatever was bothering him has worked its way out of his system!

@Adira: i definitely think it could be the formula… what are the chances that the one night he is inconsolably fussy is the one time he got fed formula? with this and the strawberry yogurt incident, i definitely suspect some sort of dairy intolerance going on. poor baby, poor mama… i hope he feels better in the morning and that whatever is causing the pain gets flushed out of his system!! please keep us posted.

@Adira: Yes. I do think it could be the formula. (But it could be other things too...not sure what the status is on the hives..) I would resort to the newborn gas maneuvers. Good news is it should be all gone tomorrow, and it should be not a huge deal...if it continues past that I would definitely investigate further because one bottle shouldn't continue into the next day. Different babies tolerate different formulas differently so many ff mamas go through a long fussy phase where they look for the right one. But no, you are not grasping at straws.

Definitely sounds like it could be gas. Have you tried the Little Tummies gas drops? That always worked for my LO. Hope he feels better.

@blackbird: I would've thought if it was the hives, he would have been scratching more? He just kept arching his back, rolling over, crying crying crying. I couldn't figure it out!

@Dandelion: Oh, I think I do have some gripe water... I'll have to check! Maybe that will help him. I did try to do some stomach massages to help him, but he just kept crying and trying to get away from me. :(

That definitely can be it. He probably has some gas. Also since formula is different it's probably creating some different kind of bowl movments (thicker, harder) his little tummy is working on something new. If there is an allergy involved it could definitely add to the discomfort.

Do you have gripe water or other gas remedy for him?

Maybe? R has a milk protein formula allergy and she had hives and fussiness. She also spit up A LOT.

ETA - X sounds more like R when she's teething though. Sometimes the medicine doesn't help her.

He could still be itchy from the hives, even if it's going away. I know E was pretty crabby with her eczema, even when it was going away :

So as you all know, my breastfed baby got a bottle of formula today at daycare! We think he might have a dairy allergy because he broke out into hives. The hives are receding and he seems mostly okay.

BUT he's been crazy fussy all evening. Every time I've nursed him, after he's done, he immediately starts crying and has been fairly inconsolable! He would only stop crying when I held him up and walked around the house with him. I tried giving him Tylenol in case he's upset because he's teething, but even that didn't work (and that ALWAYS works).

Do you guys think maybe he's been so cranky because he has an upset stomach from the formula? Or am I just grasping at straws?
