DS was like this, but something magical happened when he turned 2. People he saw more regularly, he started going over to play, hug, hang out with. He'll always prefer me to be around, but once he's comfortable, he's okay with me stepping aside or hanging out with other adults while he plays with the other kids.

Last month, he regressed to be a bit more clingy again, but it went away. It just comes and goes for us. I'm nervous how he'll be when DD arrives in 2 months! eek!

Oh yeah K has been like that from like 11 months on! Same with you; if I'm not there, she's totally fine with my mom, DH, daycare... But if I'm there, forget about everything else!!

@Mae: yes!!!!! My 20 month old is the same way. Up Up Up constantly.

My son does go to daycare but the minute we get home it's up up up all night and all weekend. He wants to be held standing up walking around the house just like a newborn.

It's tiring but I try distraction as much as possible but that doesn't always work. I'm just hoping one day it jusrpt stops 😉

My almost 20 month old is ridiculously clingy and it makes me crazy. I SAH and still nurse a couple times a day and he always wants to be held while he sticks his hand down my shirt yelling BOOB! Alll day long. I can't even leave him with anyone besides dh or my mom or he is inconsolable the entire time. I mean hours straight. Even with dh and my mom he is ok for a couple hours max which is going to be a problem when I start working pt next month. I swear it's second child syndrome because all my friends say the same thing and my older one was never ever like this!

I remember this stage! It happened around maybe 13/14 months? And it was accompanied by whining which was super fun. It was nearly impossible to get anything done. The worst of it only lasted a couple weeks, but it felt like forever. Hang in there!

My DD was like this from around 15 months and its still going strong now at 20 months. Its exhausting. I WOH FT too and she's fine at daycare. I think it's just when I'm home and in her sight she wants to be carried or sitting in my lap.

We just went through this with our 15 month old. 2 days ago, she just started playing by herself, walking around, smiling. She is a totally different baby! I hope it lasts. The clinginess lasted several months for us.

Following, bc my 19 month old has been doing this for the past 1-2 months. It is driving me crazy. I'm not used to it, because the first 17 months or so of his life, he had no mommy preference whatsoever. So it's completely new to me, and it is extreme. I really really hope it's a phase. Mommy needs a break!

My 20 or 21 month old goes through phases like this all the time. He's having a good day today, but I've gotten REALLY good at making his breakfast with one hand because I cannot put him down. He's fine at daycare and mostly fine with dad, so it's totally me haha.

@Mae: My experience was that starting daycare made it WAY WORSE but it got incrementally better. Once he adjusted, we had good nights and bad nights and average nights. I'm expecting a tough week with my kiddo too because he'll be going back for the first time in like two weeks tomorrow, and he's moving to a new classroom.

@regberadaisy: lol I hope I feel that way. Right now I'm a bit heartbroken about going back to work and missing her. She's a challenge but I've honestly loved being able to stay home with her for 20 mo!

I wore DS on my back a lot during that stage. It helped. It felt like forever, but I think it was just a few weeks.

At almost 20 mo we are still dealing with this. I almost can't walk safely in the house because if i"m standing up she's climbing up my legs going UP UP UP. And I've been SAH. She starts daycare ft tomorrow and I fear its (somehow????) going to get even worse. :crying:

My 16 month old has been extremely clingy for the past few months. It is driving me absolutely bonkers. She basically won't let anyone else hold her. If she can see me, she will literally follow me around crying "mommy, mommy, mommy..." Non stop. Every now and then she will go to DH and be fine. But otherwise it's me 24/7. The second I put her down she starts immediately crying. Independent play has dropped to maybe 15%, on a good day.

I WOH FT and she is completely fine at daycare. If she doesn't see me, she is fine.

I know this is just a phase and it will pass. But when my oldest went through this it wasn't nearly this bad. I'm about ready to tear my hair out!!!

Were your littles clingy to the nth degree? How long did it last for you?
