@Mrs Green Grass: @Mrs. Lion: That is what we are doing, commando with sweat pants or leggings or a dress if at home (we did a dress out and about and she lifted it above her head and ran through the splash pad, I had to chase her to get her to cover up  ) and it works great. First time in leggings was rough, I guess they are tight like diapers. But mostly it works.

@Mrs Green Grass: yes! supposedly the underwear feels too much like a diaper but commando feels different so they don't just pee like they did in diapers. will he poop even if he's naked from the waist down? and yes...potty training is the worst.

@Mrs. Lion: commando in shorts?? I've never thought about that before! But my lo has no problem pooping wherever he's at so I don't think it'll work for us, but I'm going to keep it in the toolkit! I hate potty training so much!

@Smurfette: So I was finally brave enough to leave for the whole morning with the kiddo in just pants without underwear...he stayed dry the whole time! We were in and out of 4 different stores and were gone for almost 4 hours. WAHOO!

I feel like I need to keep towels and clorox wipes in my bag though in case he does have an accident, because without undies I feel like it will make a huge mess!

The thing with UTIs is that there's the urge to pee or frequent peeing but not a ton of pee every time... It sounds like he must be drinking A TON of fluids to be peeing that much. Still may be worth checking out. You could try an at home test before running to the pediatrician. Another symptom would be a fever with no other symptoms, but since he has a cold it'd be hard to say. Our pediatrician also said that uncircumcised boys have been shown to have a slightly higher risk of UTI, for whatever that's worth. I have no idea if that even applies.

I was going to second @HTownMom: .. Especially with a little sibling and new younger class, that would be my guess. That and maybe the super frequent peeing is just getting to be tedious.

Have you talked with his teacher or emailed about it? The transition can be hard on kids at school and if he is the more advanced, he might be regressing to be more like a baby or other kids in his class who use s diaper.

@Smurfette: We tried this today and he made it through our afternoon walk dry! Hurray! Thanks :)

@Kemma: He is 2.5. I totally know what you mean about control, but I don't think thats it this time. He will go every time I ask as long as he gets a cookie :) The problem is he pees again like 15 minutes later without warning! Crazy. That's a good suggestion though. Thanks!

@travellingbee: Oh gosh I didn't even think of this. What are the symptoms of a UTI?

@Periwinkle: The fluid thing could definitely be a culprit. He has a cold and we have been pushing smoothies and water on him. Maybe he is just not used to needing to go so often? We actually pulled him out of the preschool program after last week (long story) so he has been home with me this week. I hope things get better for you too!

@Mrs. Lion: I can almost write the same kind of post! LO has been potty trained since the beginning of August, did amazingly well for 6 weeks (even dry after nighttime and naps!) and then, all of a sudden this week, had some difficulties. He started at nursery school last week and there has been a lot of transition there so I am hoping that's it. I spoke to one of his teaches this morning and she mentioned that he has been drinking much more water than I usually give him at home, so I am hoping that's part of the issue.

For you LO, is it possible that the changes in his schedule are throwing him off? Or perhaps he's also drinking more water while he's at his school? I would also recommend ditching the undies for as long as possible at home. And when you're out and about, take him to the potty much more than you think he'd ever have to go. My only suggestion would be not to go back into diapers while you're out. I worry that that will confuse him more and make it "OK" to go places other than the potty.

I can commiserate! Wishing you the best :)

That's a lot of peeing! Maybe totally out-there suggestion but could it be a UTI?

How old is your wee guy? My big girl is three next month and went through a period of complete refusal a couple of months after her brother arrived and it sucked!

What worked for us was to just put her back in nappies for a while but explaining she could still use the toilet and couldn't wear undies if she was going to wet them. I also stopped with the constant reminders because in our case she was trying to assert her independence / control and I think the constant reminding was pissing her off! I knew that she knew how to do it (so it wasn't a physical problem) so I wasn't concerned that she'd be confused by the nappies. She went back into her undies after 2-3 weeks and has only had a handful of accidents since!

You guys, I need help.

A little background...we started practicing with the potty over a year ago, and decided to jump into modified "oh crap" potty training. We went a solid 3 weeks in underwear and shorts with virtually no accidents (there was one when he fell asleep in the car).

Last week he went to a new preschool where he was the oldest in the class and possibly the only one potty trained. He went two mornings. Then last weekend we went out of town. We kept up our routine other than that. Last week he started becoming a bit resistant to going to the potty, but still would. By the weekend it was a battle, and I had to reintroduce rewards. By the end of the weekend, even with the rewards he was still having 6-10 accidents a day. This has continued all week. It literally does not matter how often I take him to the potty. If he is wearing underwear, he pees in it every time. Today we went to target and he peed before we left, then in the car (it's a 7 minute drive), peed in the potty when we got there, and then by the time we got to the checkout he had completely soaked through his gerber underwear, shorts, and the stroller seat.

What. Is. Happening?!? And what do I do about it?!? We went back to naked from the waist down and that seems to help at home, but the second the underwear back on it's like he completely forgets. :(

I knew it was too good to be true... Has anyone navigated this before? Help!!
