Honestly, I am sure it is fine (based on my research about something I take and the effect it might have on breastfeeding). I agree with other posters saying that doctors are usually just overly cautious because they don't know. It is such a small amount that would make it into the milk.

Well my eye doc never even asked and I nursed my daughter pretty soon after dilation. Do what makes you comfortable, but I wouldn't pump and dump personally.

I don't know, but when I had an eye dr appt while I was nursing I asked him before he dilated, and he paused then decided not to dilate just to be on the safe side.

My dentist, on the other hand, wanted me to pump and dump for hours after novacaine, which I did not do because my pediatrician friend said it was fine.

I would look it up on MotherRisk but honestly you can have general anesthesia and feed right afterwards, so I'm sure it's fine. Most doctors or overly cautious or don't know anything about breastfeeding.

I had an eye exam today and only after dilating my eyes the eye doctor says oh, don't feed any pumped milk for the next four hours. (Side note, really doc, could have told me before!) I'm wondering if he was just being overly cautious or if I should dump the milk I pumped during that time period. From what I read it's a very minor chance of the drug making it's way into my milk but I wanted some opinions.
