@Mrs. Champagne: thanks! that’s reassuring to hear. We just did another dose and she got so worked up about it that she couldn’t stop hyperventilating. I’m hoping tomorrow is easier. (Or that I can get a dose in while she sleeps in the early morning!)

Our eye doctor said if she closes her eye and we dropped it in the corner, when she opened enough would go in. We totally held down and just did it. No reasoning was working.

@jhd: I’m glad we have enough to spare too! I hate when medication for my kids comes in short supply...it seems like we always lose some along the way.

@jennlin821: thank you!! The idea to warm them up might solve a lot of our problem...she was okay with the idea of the drops at first, but after the first one was too cold, the panic seriously set in. I didn’t realize cold was going to be an issue!

@caitcat: I can help!!! Two things:
1) make the drops warm. I hold them in my hand or between my thighs. It makes the drop less ‘sharp’ feeling..
2) Have you LO lie down and close her eyes. Put the drop in the inside corner (nearest her nose) with her eyes closed. Then have her open her eyes and roll them around.

Do one eye at a time. No flinching, no squirming, no anxiety and no holding down!!

@caitcat: we made him lay down on the bed and watched him closely obviously but he was able to get it. And I knew we had plenty of drops so I didn’t care if he had to miss and get it on his cheek etc to figure out exactly where they needed to go. But yes aside from him doing it himself it was often dad holding him in a bear hug and me forcing the drops in! :(

@crazydoglady: Ooh, I might try this tonight for our next dose! It could help with the timing for spacing them too, if it works.

@caitcat: I was going to suggest doing it when they were sleeping if your LO is a sound sleeper. :silly:

@gotkimchi: It was definitely a two person job! And probably will be again in a few hours. My husband joked I'd have to sit on her tomorrow to do it on my own...but seriously.

@crazydoglady: 3 times a day...I guess not as bad as it could be, but three more times than I'd like! :)

@jhd: Haha, I'm not above bribery at all! This seems like a good opportunity for that. I've wondered if we might be able to get her to put them in herself. I'll keep that in mind as we go.

I have a five year old also and we also really struggled to get the drops in when he had pink eye this fall. Eventually he learned to put them in himself. And we told him he could pick out a new toy when the 10 days were up. But maybe not everyone is ok with bribing their kid! ;)

My five year old has pink eye...but we're struggling to get the drops in her. She understands that they'll help her eye feel better and she gets that they *have* to go in to work, but she is totally panicking about us putting them in. We showed her how we put drops in our eyes and blink them in. We gave her a little dropper to "practice" on a doll. We talked up how much it's going to help her feel better and how it's the medicine the doctor gave us to help her get well. I feel like we've set the stage...but to get the first dose in her this afternoon, it took my husband pinning her down while I held her eye open and put them in. Needless to say, it wasn't pretty and I'm not sure how we're going to get the next ones in later today.

Any tips or tricks to make this easier?
