We had many eye checks early on because of prematurity. Since those issues are fine, they won't see him again until he's 3 to actually check his vision.

@Alivoo01: @Mrs. Bee: @Mamaof2: Thanks for the replies! Everyone in my family wears glasses. My SO's family is about 50/50, but my SO has perfect eyesight. I have thought it possible our children may need glasses.

Our ped does them at 4 - if there is a problem then you go see a real eye doctor

oh the optometrist recommended once babies are 1, but based on our experience with olive (who hated it), we're going to wait until she can read the alphabet.

mr bee and i both have bad eyes, so it's in the genes and both kids will probably end up with glasses.

My friend is an optometrist and she recommends taking them in when they're 6 months through the InfantSee program. Especially if there's a history of eye/vision problems in the family.

@Mrs. Bee: Thank you for your reply. You are very right about finding out now instead of later. I was one of those kids that could never see in school because no one would listen when I told them! I think we'll schedule an appointment soon.

I want to write a post about this because we recently took Charlie and Olive at 1 and 3. I would take a child once they can read the alphabet, which means they can read the eye chart. We learned a lot! Like Charlie will probably need glasses by 1st grade womp womp.

I would def take your 4.5 year old. If they need glasses, better to find out sooner than later. Olive was too young though. They did get a general sense of her vision, but I think it's best to wait until the kids are a little older.

DS1 is 4.5 years old and he's never had an eye exam. At his check ups with his pedi (which we missed is 4 year check because they kept cancelling and rescheduling and we haven't been yet) his dr always looks in his eyes with the light but that's it. Should we be taking him for an eye exam soon?
