just wanted to add that depending on the color you may want to get it checked out. My LO had some that initially looked whitish but turned bright green...they thought it was conjunctivitis (pink eye) but it turned out to be an ear infection!

Seconding (thirding, fourthing, fifthing???) breastmilk. Squirt the milk in, wipe the goop from the inner corner of the eye outwards once (so you don't just put the gunk back with the next wipe)!! we had issues with this when LO was a newborn

My LO had a clogged duct as a newborn and his pedi suggested massaging the inner corner of the eye and to dab some breastmilk on it. But if it's only happening when he's sick you might talk to his pedi about it.

It might also be conjunctivitis. Sometimes viral conjunctivitis occurs with a cold. You might want to check with your ped.

Breastmilk! DS had bad eye gunk when he was 2 mos old. I would squirt a little bit of milk and massage the tear duct and it cleared up completely in a few days.

You can squirt a little breastmilk in his eye ( lol, I know it sounds so weird). That's what my doctor suggested but unfortunately I wasn't breastfeeding at the time so I couldn't tey it out. It's supposedly a very common treatment, though.

No experience with this, but...breast milk?

I think that's always the answer.

My DD had the worst eye gunk when she was an infant. It cleared up on its own in about a month. All I could do was wipe it away every morning with warm water. I also massaged the inner corners of her eyes to release the tear duct.

I'm just throwing this out there because I always learn new stuff on the boards. DS has terrible eye boogers and congestion. The eye boogers matted his eyes shut and made them incredibly swollen yesterday night. I coated them in Vaseline and have been wiping with a warm cloth when he's awake, but any other remedies? I'm nursing him now and he is pretty much asleep and I already see them forming! :-(
