@GoGoSnoGirl: oh! That's good to know in the future. Maybe I will try to rally future groups around it.

@meadow: maybe since your group just recently moved to fb they will be open to this? Probably not, but worth floating the idea

@Litebrite: an option away from FB is GroupMe. You can set up a messaging board for groups or direct message individuals, too. It doesn't sound like this will help you, though, @meadow: unfortunately.

Ugh, what a shame that you've avoided fb for so long and now you need to join to stay on the loop for one group. Depending on how active the group is, using your husbands account might be fine. But if you'd want to check in multiple times a day youd probably want your own account.

There are like two social groups on fb that keep me from leaving all together. I really wish there was a good app for groups that isn't tied to fb or your real identifty.

@Petitduck: I only use fb on my browser. I refuse to use the apps. So to read messages I use the "use desktop site" option in chrome, and then I can read and write fb messages. It's a huge pain, but I dont use the messaging often so it works for me.

Oh you know actually I do have the fb app too and don’t use it ... you can (in your iPhone settings) turn off notifications for any app. So I wouldn’t see any of them unless I open the app. I don’t really like any notifications at all - I keep them off except texts (and even that I turned off vibrate so I only notice when I choose to look)

There are several moms in our neighborhood groups who do the fake name thing. I also don’t use the app (except messenger) and get email notifications. I think that’s the way to go vs sharing

You can have Facebook and use it through the browser and just get it to email notify you when someone sends a message to you or responds to a post. I don’t have the app just go through the browser and I did download the Facebook messenger app since there seems to be no way around that.

If your husband is fine with it and they’re fine with your husband being able to see posts then it is easier to just do it like that, but only minutely easier.

I participate in HB because of the anonymity .....but I dont have any social media accounts (Instagram, FB, twitter, etc). I've been a part of a mom group that meets in person for almost the past 3 years. They recently ditched their archaic message board (that was a complete ghost town except for the posting of monthly get togethers.) And have decided to communicate solely on FB. I have started to get more involved and the ladies are asking me to make a fake FB so I can chat/plan things on the closed FB group. They are against using email for mass communications.

So here's my question. I am resistant to making acct that I use for anything else.....if I make a fake name FB just to join this group would if make sense to use the FB app for notifications? I can't stand bombarding notifications..... My DH might be ok with me joining the group on his FB acct.....does that make more or less sense?

Help from FB experts.........slash anyone who has been in a similar (odd) boat?
