I failed the 1 hr by a lot. We were resigned to me failing the 3 hr, but I passed it. I felt completely wrecked after, so I suggest having a couple granola bars or something stashed in the car.

I failed the 1 hour (I got a 150something and needed to be below 130--I had also taken it fasting, so it's not like I ate something sweet right beforehand) and passed the 3 hour with really good numbers, all way below what they needed to be. I wouldn't stress about it!

I think the thresholds for failing the first test are super low... I know so many people that have failed the first one. I think I failed it b.c I just don't eat much sugar in general and therefore my body freaked out a little at the amt of sugar. I did feel like garbage after both tests.

My doc gave me a special diet to follow three days prior to increase the chances of passing... it had additional sugar-laden items at each meal, and she gave me a listing with tons of options to have in ADDITION to my normal diet/meals (I want to say it was 50g of sugar 5 times a day?). I don't remember the specifics but I think that it helped my body get more used to processing large amounts of sugars at a time. I know that in the mornings I tried to replicate the amt of sugars in the screening (100g), so I would have a cup of apple juice and a slice of pancake. The first day I noticed I was a bit shaky and felt bad, but the third day my body handled it no problem. So then the day of the test I didn't have nearly as much of a problem with the longer screening.

@purrpletulips: @gracecat from the Dec boards also failed the screening after honey nut cheerios!

I wasn't required to fast. I ate half a donut at 7am for breakfast, and half a sandwich (whole wheat) at 12pm then tested at 2pm.
Hopefully the lab will have wifi and I'll take my Ipad. Otherwise will take the kindle.

@chopsuey119 @mrsjyw thanks for the reassurance! So far the poll results seem reassuring too.

I failed the first. I had eaten a bagel for breakfast that morning like a stupid person. I passed the 3 hour though.

Failed both :( diagnosed with GD but I was so borderline that the only two spikes I ever had were after stuffed french toast and after a cupcake. Also, the GD diet (when I followed it, which was often!) helped keep my weight gain down.

Failed the 1 hour (just outside of the normal range - cutoff was 139 and I got a 147), passed the 3 hour (easily, my results weren't even close to the limits). I did the 1 hour on a fasting stomach. It was first thing in the morning and the only things I wanted to eat were sweets or carbs, so I just didn't eat anything at all.

ETA: Make sure you have something to eat/someone to pick you up at the end of the test, if possible. I felt like absolutely garbage afterward.

Were you required to fast before your 1hr? If not what you ate beforehand could affect the results. With both my pregnancies I wasn't required to fast before the 1h4; pregnancy 1 I had a container of low fat yogurt and passed but pregnancy 2 I had a bowl of honey nut cheerios and failed. The 3hr test isn't bad just make sure you take something to do while waiting.

I just got the word that I failed my 1 hour screening and have to go in for the 3 hour test.

Curious how many people failed the first screening but passed the second test.

What was your experience?
