One of my girlfriends had to have a spinal block because an epidural wouldn't take! That is the only time I've heard of that Happening to anyone I know!

I wanted to go all natural but I have to admit it felt GREAT and worked perfectly. I had no headache, tingling or lasting issues. When it wore off, it was over and that was that!

I had about 2 hours of pure bliss and was able to nap. Then at around 10cm intense pain started again however LO was still too high to start pushing. They ended up giving me 4 boluses which took the edge off the pain but it was still pretty bad. My nurse couldn't believe I was still in pain and requested the anesthesiologist return and check the positioning of the epidural. He readjusted it but it didn't do much. It made pushing harder when the time came but there was immediate relief once lo was out!

Mine didn't fail but I hated being stuck on my bed. I think that's why I was stuck at a 3cm and ended up getting a c-section.

Mine worked a little better on my left side than my right, but overall worked really well. I was very happy to have it!

A similar thing happened to me @MerryC... it wore off on one side (my left side), so they gave me a bolus... then another one... and another one. And they tried to "adjust" the catheter, but it still didn't help. They finally just took it out and re-did it. Then I was completely numb on my right side-- like, I couldn't even move my toes! But it was worth it because I didn't feel anything and it was g-l-o-r-i-o-u-s.

Luckily, my epidurals worked perfectly for both of my births. The nurses did turn it off a little early the second time, though..

The only trouble I had was that my epi drained more to one side initially and so I had to bolus to get it balanced, and after that it was a little overzealous on the numbing. i progressed really quickly after the epi though, so I was pushing like an hour after I got it balanced.

It seems like there are several mamas who had failed epidurals. Mine failed twice, once right after they broke my water at 9cm, and I labored without it for two hours. They finally fixed it, I was able to rest for half an hour before pushing, then an hour and a half into pushing it stopped working again. I didn't say anything that time, because it was good motivation to push hard and well and get him out. Plus I don't think they would have fixed it then.

Then they gave me a third after delivery (because of some complications) and go figure it lasted like 8 hours.

Did your epidural stop working? When? Were you able to get another one/have it replaced or were you SOL?
