Trip to the ER, a prescription for an Epi-Pen, a follow-up with our pediatrician, and a referral to an allergist who confirmed the allergy. I wouldn't worry about it too much, but just be aware that a food allergy is possible, especially when introducing the top allergens for the first time.</p> <p>@Pollywog: We actually did it with chocolate milk. They stopped the challenge and gave him Benadryl and the hives cleared right up and he was fine an hour later. I don't think they'd do a milk challenge if they thought he might have an anaphylactic reaction (they didn't suggest a milk challenge until his blood test came back fairly low). At the challenge though, they start by just giving 1 mL, then waiting 10 minutes and checking his vitals, then 2 mL, 10 minutes and check, 5 mL, 10 minutes and check, and increasing the dosage until he can drink ~6 oz without a reaction.
