so sorry to hear it hun but I echo the sentiments on here! I'm sure that you'll be fine and I have a feeling you're going to pass with flying colors on that 3 hour. That said it sucks to have to take the 3 hour so I'm sorry to hear that you have to go through that

*Hugs* My mom left on a long vacation right after I found out I had GD and I was a total and complete wreck about it, so I understand - it's extra hard going through something like that with one of your usual support people gone. I don't have any real advice, just try to take things one day at a time and not go through all the what-if possibilities in your head, because a lot of people do fail the 1 hour and pass the 3 hour. I would try to get your DH to go with you to the 3 hour though, or anyone who will be supportive.

@youboots: Don't sweat it mama! I failed my 1 hour and felt like such a failure. The good news is you didn't fail miserably! I did end up passing the 3 hour!

I have also been anemic, and it is no big deal. Once you get some iron in you, you'll probably feel more human/have more energy. Don't hesitate to ask for alternatives if the supplement is hard on your stomach. I got constipated taking iron, so be prepared for that too.

You're doing great, both are minor issues and it is better to identify and treat them than to not detect them!

I had GD with my 2nd pregnancy. I had ultrasounds every week starting at 30 weeks and I had to monitor my blood sugars. The initial information you get is overwhelming. My doctor just said to focus more on protein in my meals. Honestly, I cheated often!

I was in this same exact situation with my first pregnancy. I failed my 1-hour, passed my 3-hour a week later. Diagnosed with anemia and took an iron supplement. No big deal, didn't end up with GD, baby was born (induced) healthy at 41+1, was 8 lb 15 oz, and is 2 1/2 now :)

I was anemic around the same time too. Whole foods/Amazon sells a supplement that my dr recommended -- floradix. Totally worked for me!

I didn't have anemia but I do have GD... I was really worried at first about it too but it is pretty manageable. :)

Good luck!!! A lot of people I knew failed the 1-hour and passed the 3-hour... I was just not one of them.

The anemia is no big deal you should just have to take a iron supplement. I did last pregnancy and it was fine.

I failed the 1 hour and 3 hour, but honestly it wasn't a huge deal. The pricking my finger didn't hurt at all, and as long as I ate protein with it, I could eat pretty much whatever I wanted and my blood sugar stayed level. So even if you don't pass the 3 hour either, it can be fine. Stay away from google!

Also, cooking in cast iron can help with iron levels. It's all I cook meat in now, and I love it!

Soooo many people fail the 1 hour and go on to pass the 3 hour. And anemia in pregnancy is common. You'll be ok!

No advice on the failing the 1-hour, but they told me I was anemic after my glucose test too.

My doctor told me that almost 50% of her patients show anemic at the glucose test. She said most pre-natals actually don't have iron in them. I checked the back of mine after she said it and confirmed that she was right - mine didn't! Either way, it wasn't a huge deal and I took the iron through the rest of my pregnancy. The iron did make me have stomach issues so I posted on the Bee about it and got some great advice on types to take. You can search and probably find the post.

I failed my one hour glucose screen and was reminded that yes, I'm still anemic though they have me on an iron-rich diet and prenatals with iron. I ended up passing my 3 hour glucose test, actually registering as hypoglycemic which I have previously been diagnosed with years ago. Guess the 1 hour screen was a fluke.

Good luck with your 3 hour test!

Hey team,

So I had my 1 hour pre screen blood glucose test today and it came back as 156, anything over 140 fails. So now I have to do the 3 hour this week, boo.

Also, they advised me that I am anemic and have to pick up a prescription today for an iron supplement.

I'm a little freaked out and I looked on Google and it s making it worse so I thought I would check in with y'all. My next appointment is not until Monday. For those of you that have been through something similar, any advice?

I am 28 weeks along with my first.

Thank you.
