@banana: I hope that the worst thing that I have to do is a controlled diet, which will be hard for me because I love sweets. I decided that before I get the results I am going to treat myself to a cupcake from a fancy shop in case I can't have any again for a long time.

@artbee: first thing in the morning (6:30am?) I had a smoothie/protein shake (cup of frozen berries, scoop of low sugar protein powder, 1/2 cup soymilk and half cup water), after my appointment I had a few crackers and some ginger because I was on the verge of throwing up, then at 9:30 I had two eggs scrambled plain (MW said protein should be fine). I had the drink at about 10:45am. I think the smoothie and the snacks after the OB appointment did it. Especially because I was so close.

@mamabolt: I didn't even think about the vein issue other than knowing it will suck to be stuck 4 times. I hope they don't have a hard time finding mine. I'm bringing my nook to keep me occupied and my appointment is at 7:30am (the earliest possible time).

@msmini: I haven't been diagnosed with PCOS, but I definitely have some symptoms. My doctor wasn't too concerned about it before I got pregnant and said that we would deal with it if I have a hard time conceiving, which I didn't.

@chopsuey119: It seems like a lot of ladies fail the first one and then pass the second. I hope I'm part of that group!

I had GD when I was pregnant with my son so they tested me early this time around at 12 weeks. I failed the 1 hour so I didn't even bother taking the 3 hour. I've been on a controlled diet ever since (I'm 21 weeks now).

I didn't have it early, but I did fail my first and passed the second. What did you eat before? I feel like you didn't have time to prepare so that could be the cause, and the 3 hour one you'll have to fast so hopefully that will make a difference. My tips are : bring lots to do, its boring just sitting there. And bring a snack for when you're finished, you'll be starving.

I just did the three hour yesterday after failing the one hour by one point (though I'm 28 weeks). The worst part for me was since you have to take it first thing in the morning, I was already dehydrated and then couldn't drink more than sips of water during the test, so they had a terrible time finding my veins. I ended up getting stuck in both elbows and forearms and it took them multiple tries for some of the sticks. So I would say push as much water as you can ahead of time to help this problem! Honestly, I thought I'd be starving but I really wasn't, I don't usually eat overnight anyway, so I just had to get up and go right to the lab and once I had the sugar solution, didn't have that OMG must have food now feeling. I definitely felt a little sick from the sugar (It's twice as much as the 1 hour) but I was able to bring my laptop and work during the test which was nice. Bring a high protein snack to eat as soon as you are done with your last blood draw! Good luck!

I had an early glucose test in my first trimester due to PCOS, I passed that one, but ended up failing the one at 26 weeks. Where I live we do 2 hour instead of 3 hour tests though. My OB went straight to the 2 hour test both times.

Wow. I've never heard of an early glucose test. I had mine in my 3rd trimester, failed the 1 hour test, but passed the 3 hour test.
The 3 hour wasn't bad, but I was super bored during the wait and it wasn't fun getting blood drawn so many times. :P
Hope your follow up test goes well!

I had my first prenatal appointment last week (@ 8weeks) and it went great! However, my doctor sent me for an early glucose test that day, which I assume is because I'm overweight. It was the one hour test. Has anyone else had the glucose test that early? Also, I found out today that I failed by 2 points; I had a 132 and 130 was the cutoff. I'm so disappointed and worried that something will be wrong. I have to go back and do the 3 hour test on friday and I'm dreading it. I was told that I have to take it fasting and I haven't been able to go very long without food before getting very nauseated. They are going to prescribe some anti-nausea medication because if I throw up then I have to do it again. Have any of you had the 3 hour test? Was it awful? I'm also freaking out because I'm extremely anxious about needles and tend to be emetophobic.
