If people quibble over own vs. shared bath, I’d do two things - (1) agree to try to minimize everyone else’s use of the common area bathrooms to give more privacy and (2) the families with their own baths split the end of rental cleaning fee, leave a cleaning tip if applicable, or pay for a meal. That’s usually only two of us so it’s easy. We did split a cottage with 7 adults last year and did by person. It ended up being 3 couples and one persons DH couldn’t come so she paid less. In your scenario I would do what you propose! Yes, rooms with adjoining bathrooms are a plus, but who wants to share a bathroom with a kid? And if you start doing it by what room is better you invite all sorts of hurt feelings if some rooms are nicer than others or someone is sleeping in a twin vs. a queen or whatever else. The house is a unit (and so much more than just bedrooms), the friend/family group is a unit and the kids are just along for the ride. That would only make sense if they had their own room bc you’d need a more expensive house. </p> <p>We do something smaller with 5 adults and this summer will be 4 kids (who sleep in parents bedrooms). One adult is single/childless. We split 5 ways (so my fam pays 2/5).. </p> <p>Hopefully your friends are receptive to a more reasonable split. It's hard to plan but the senior generation cycles through who plans it every other year. Then the remainder by room. So if the rental is 2000, the personal bath rooms pay 363. The rooms with shared baths pay 227. ( siblings sharing pay 113 each). There’s too much room for argument about whether family with the master bedroom and bath should be priced at a premium v. the shared room with 2 single beds.
