My son, who touches EVERYTHING couldn't be bothered with my decorations. This year, we're doing funkins in the house, I don't usually decorate outside.

@mediagirl: Oooo, how tall was that? I might have to keep that in mind. We'll have a very active 14-month-old, but I just can't forgo the big tree.

@rattles: @MamaPhoenix: it's meant to be a fence outside and it has a pretty secure binding around it. It bends forward and back but it hasn't fallen over yet. Our 18 month old (last Christmas) just ignored it completely!

@mediagirl: that is so cute!

We didn't have a huge problem with our Christmas tree. I put up a small (2ft) tree for LO with ornaments and Bella that's she could take off and play with. I put it up first and she left the big tree alone and played with her tree.

We also haven't had many decorations with in her reach unless they were super kid friendly. I have just started putting pictures and things back on tables at 28 months.

I tried putting fake pumpkins and pumpkin luminaries near the window and DD kept gathering them and arranging them on the couch. They're mostly ceramic. My floors are tiled downstairs. I'll need new ones by next year :sad:

Last year lo left the Xmas tree alone, but what I did was decorate the bottom of the tree with things he can touch. I bought a lot of felt ornaments just for him.

This year I bought a bag of mini pumpkins from Costco for $5.99. I placed them all around the house and I don't mind him touching them. I also have wooden pumpkins on the fireplace mantle. In the foyer I have branches of autumn leaves on our entry way table. Lo have told me they are pretty but we are lucky that he doesn't mess with any of it.

I'm putting decorations on top of our bookshelves/mantel and a wreath on the door. I have no idea what we'll do about a Christmas tree this year. DD pretty much left it alone last year at 12 months, but I have less faith that she will this year.

@Mrs. High Heels: @Mrs. Lion: Hahahaha Oh the gel clings. We had the tearing problem, too. I bought these non gel clings tonight. I couldn't rip them so I'm hoping she can't either!

We have our formal living room gated off so I do my usual stuff in there. I pretty much did my regular decorations every where else I just had to get a little more creative with placement, putting things higher. I got some velvet pumpkins that I put somewhere she can reach since she can't hurt them or herself. She's very interested but she's usually good as long as there's some things I do let her touch. I do hope we don't have to gate the Christmas trees but we'll see!

Last year this time, K was barely mobile so I didn't have to worry much about decorating around her. This year she's like a little tornado! Climbing, running, and able to reach things on counters even now! :shocked:

Typical coffee/console tabletop decor, vases, things placed on the floor decorations seem so out of question. Short of garlands and hanging things on the walls, what kinds of decor are you planning to do (or DID) with a toddler? And does it get better say after 2 or 3 y/o?

Photos for inspiration gets you bonus points! :wink:
