This happened once for us, when LO was under 7 months. She was playing in the living room before her nap, and she laid her head down on her boppy and fell asleep. It only lasted like 20 minutes though..

On the other hand, a good friend of mine from church has a son 8 days younger than my LO, and naps in his jumper nearly every day. When it's nap time, her other kids go into their rooms for quiet time, and puts him in the jumper. He gives a few big jumps and just settles in to nap. And I guess he can sleep there for quite a while!

D hasn't done this yet, but fairly often when he's playing on the floor he'll just lie down for a few seconds. I wouldn't be too surprised if one day he dozes off for a few minutes. He's definitely not sleep deprived though.

@Pirouette: Haha, same here. J doesn't really nap anywhere except his crib or car seat - except a freak nap he took around 6 or 7 months, where he just laid his head down in the jumper and started snoozing. It was SO weird - I picked him up and put him down in his crib after a few minutes but it was crazy how fast it happened. I actually worried for a second that he had some kind of medical emergency, but no, he just hit a wall REALLY fast.

This happens if they are really sick. Otherwise, I think the kids would have to be majorly sleep deprived to fall asleep like that so that hasn't happened.

Hahaha we must be the crazy exception to the rule because my lo has done this twice! Both times in her jumperoo. She is actually pretty great at napping and we always follow her cues but twice she was jumping jumping jumping and then laid her head down and fell asleep instantly. I think the jumperoo was still moving lol! She hasn't used the jumperoo in months though so these must have been around 5-6 months old? She was still pretty teeny.

Never ever even close! I dream of that nap! At 19 months LO is decidedly a gal who only naps on mama or in the car. Sometimes when she's playing she'll grab her blankie and pull a pillow off theccouch and I'm thinking, 'oh man! This is it!!!' but it neverrrr happens lol.

I think once LO fell asleep during tummy time. She was like 1 maybe 2 months old. I needed to cook dinner & she just laid her head down on her mat so I walked away & she slept a bit. There were a few times where she would be playing on her mat (on her back) & she would doze for 30 minutes or so. All these instances happened prior to 3 months old when her sleep had no pattern & before she hit a regression. I have no idea how it happens with older kids. I'm not even sure how kids just take a nap in their playpen in the livingroom. My LO would never do that. She needs to be in a quiet distraction free environment.

@Anutka: Exactly! DS1 just turned 2 last week and has fallen asleep that way once. He fell asleep while eating for my mom in the evening. He was around one. And for bedtime he has only fallen asleep once by himself! The other night he climbed down from our bed to his toddler bed, tucked himself in, and passed out two minutes later. I thought it was a miracle. I doubt it will happen again any time soon.

I clicked on this because I thought it was going to be a funny story about K falling asleep in the playground or something ;)

I know what you mean though, I've seen kids asleep in their jumperoo and I don't get how that can happen! S has come pretty close to falling asleep on the changing mat recently when I'm rushing to change her before her nap, but that's all!
