Embassy Suites or Residence Inn downtown. Have stayed at both with a 1 and 3 year old. Took the train from the airport and walked everywhere, including the aquarium. This is very doable and fun!!!

We took a really lovely vacation to Denver and the surrounding area several years ago when LO1 was about 20 months old. We stayed at a hotel in the Stapleton/Aurora area (near Peoria St. and I-70) but after checking back on it I would NOT recommend it to you since it seems to have declined in quality since then and has nothing but 1-star reviews recently (super sad, we had a fabulous stay).

That said, it was a great area to be able to hop on the road and go to Boulder for a day (we visited family, walked around the downtown area, played at the splash pad, etc).
It was also really convenient to lots of restaurants and things to do. We rented a car and driving around was very easy.
Some things we did:
Museum of Science and Nature
Denver Botanic Gardens
Went to a food truck rally at Civic Center Park and then the adjacent Denver Art Museum
Returned to the science museum area to play at City Park and have a picnic

Air BnB has come a long way since we were traveling so I would totally check those options out like @Pumuckl: suggested. Have a great trip!

@Leelee:
While in Denver, my cousin and her family (DH and 2 kiddos) stayed in THIS Airbnb:

https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/plus/20772970?location=Denver%2C%20Colorado%2C%20United%20States&adults=2&children=2&checkin=&checkout=&source_impression_id=p3_1561912654_VJAlpMHK%2BCcEJckX

It was less expensive than many hotels, was close to things to do, and gave them SPACE (* a kitchen, living room, play space for their DS1 to play while the little napped, etc). They said it was IMMACULATE! The owner keeps it "minimalist" which is perfect for children (* I do not know how old your LOs are. 😉). If this one is unavailable, I'm certain there are other rentals which would work (some have pools, gyms, backyard play areas, etc). Just a thought ...

@leelee: I don’t know if this fits your location but we just stayed here with our four kiddos (ages 2-6): https://www.hyatt.com/en-US/hotel/colorado/hyatt-house-denver-tech-center/denxt
We really liked it as it was super roomy and clean and the breakfast and pool were great too.

I’d say it depends on what kind of vacation you’re wanting to have :). Boulder is a very family friendly, relaxing place to hang out. There’s a ton of hiking, parks, can rent bikes/trailer and use the awesome bike path system, etc. and it’s just beautiful. Pearl street is the main pedestrian area. Denver is obviously a big city so there’s a lot more going on, a bit more hectic, a lot more to see/do, but it’s also more spread out so you have to figure out how to get to wherever you want to go. It would be fun to do a bit of both :)

@CObee: yes any more suggestions would be great. My BIL lives in Longmont and is getting married in Denver which is why we were thinking of getting a hotel room there. Do you think it would’ve better for us to stay in Boulder? He doesn’t have kids so when I asked him he had no clue lol.

I should say too, from Union Station you can take a bus directly to central Boulder, which in my opinion, is an even more fun for young families to walk around and explore than Denver and just a beautiful place to spend a day :)

I live in the suburbs of Denver so I’m not familiar with the exact hotels that might be kid friendly, but can tell you that anything along the 16th street mall in downtown will have access to the free bus that goes up and down the street every few minutes, with lots of shops and restaurants, breweries, bowling. The Brown Palace is a super cool old historical hotel a street off the mall, or you may want to check out the crawford hotel (which is actually in union train station, on the other side of the mall) or another one close to the station - it’s a really nice, redone area with tons going on around, restaurants, train watching etc. :). There is a fountain/splash pad in front of the station that kids can play in. Most kid activities would be a short drive/Uber away from downtown, like Eliches amusement park and the children’s museum right down Speer. I have a lot of suggestions for kid stuff in the northwest burbs and Boulder if you’re interested/have a car :)

We are planning a family trip to Denver in a few months and was wondering if anyone had any family friendly hotel recommendations in downtown Denver area that is within walking distance to activities for kids? My kids range from 7-1. Any help would be greatly appreciated:)
