@Mrs Green Grass: I think I saw a paradius in Mexico. Maybe I'll look into that one...we've been to Punta Cana twice in the past 3 years, so we kind of want to skip DR for this trip.

The only issue with Puerto Vallarta is that the ocean is rough and beaches are not super great for kids. I think that doesn't stop most families from going, they just spend all their time in the pool. We just got back from an AI resort in PVR and it was amazing. LO was 12.5 months and had a great time.

I don't think you can go wrong with Mexico. The Cancun/playa del Carmen side in particular has a lot of AI resorts. If you go with one of the bigger chains like Dreams or Riu a lot of them are very kid-friendly.

@Anagram: I haven't been there myself, but I've seen a bunch of people here talk about Riviera Maya being a great destination.

@ShootingStar: I think the inlaws have a membership. So...Mexico. I've been all over Mexico as a backpacker, but never in an AI. What are the good areas/resorts for families?

Do you have a Costco membership? They seemed to have some pretty good deals on all inclusives in Mexico.

@Truth Bombs: @iluvboba637: well, originally I thought a cruise somewhere warm would be great, but I can't actually find one that is under 7k for all of us when combined with airfare that is to a destination we want on a ship we would like.

Like I found couple of cruises that are cheaper on older ships, but there are no kids clubs for under 3, no in room babysitting, and kids that aren't potty trained can't go in the pools (and there are no kiddie pools or anything). So....it seemed less ideal. We'd be stuck in a small room every night by 7:30 pm for the kid's bedtimes and the suites are way out of our price range for 2 rooms.

@Anagram: I agree with pp about a cruise. Variety of foods for picky little ones, and nothing is more convenient then just going down to your cabin for nap time and diaper changes. Carnival cruise lines has camp carnival and waterworks for the kiddos too. I'm not sure what other cruise lines offer for kids, but I'm sure they have something similar. I've taken my now 3 year old on 3 cruises, and have been on many more myself. Feel free to ask if you decide on a cruise and have questions.

I actually think a cruise would be a great fit. All inclusive, plus lots of activity options and excursion choices so everyone can get what they want out of the trip.

My husband wants to take his parents somewhere in August or his dad's 70th birthday. Although I think his parents would like something like a cruise to Alaska, I also want something that will be good for our kids, who will be newly 1 and 3 by August.

So we're leaning towards an AI on a beach somewhere nice. We just spent a week traveling with just our small family of 4 at a couple of beaches in the US, and I forgot how exhausting it is to just figure out food and naps, nevermind actually getting out to the beach and pool, when staying at a regular hotel and having to go outside the hotel for food. We also don't want to cook on vacation and don't want MIL trying to cook (she needs a vacation, too!), which is why we are leaning towards an All Inclusive.

Any recommendations? Oh yeah, and we have a moderate budget. Trying to keep it under 7k for the 4 adults, 2 kiddos.

Family friendly to me would be: additional kiddie pool or kiddie features at pool. Beachfront with preferably calmer ocean (not big waves). Variety of foods available at all times. Possibly a playground. In room babysitting available or extra charge or kids club...that kind of thing. A plus would be any kind of non-athletic/non-swimming tours available for the inlaws. Think cultural tour rather than something like Parasailing.

I've been trawling the internet, but I'm just getting lost with all the choices. I'm kind of eyeing Coconut Bay in St. Lucia because it looks good for kids. But I don't know where else to consider.
