@BabyBoecksMom: My DD has a stork bite too and the family always have something or the other to say about it, especially since her hair doesn't cover it yet. I just ignore them.

@BabyBoecksMom: good point. The pediatrian isn't concerned. I will feel better getting reassurance from the specialist. That's messed up of your mil! I am sorry she wouldn't let it go. My son has the same stork bite on the back of his neck. Leave it to family to be unable to let it go :/

I don't think anyone understands how insensitive it is to hear those remarks. If it's something more, I think your pediatrician would have said something by now.

DD has a bunch of red marks on the back of her head (stork bites) and some days they are darker than others. Supposedly those will fade away, too. My MIL always commented on it until DD's hair finally grew in enough to cover it.

@kiddosc: Thank you! It helps to hear from someone that has a lo with the same (adorable) birthmark :)

@sorrycharlie: I'm sorry you have to put up with the comments as well :(. People don't realize how hurtful they are being. It sucks.

@Mrsbells: Thank you! Although it was bad timing and poorly stated, I agree that her comment did come from a good place.

@TurtleDoves: Thank you for your input!

@.twist.: Thank you!

:( I can see how that would be upsetting.

My brother had a really good friend who had almost half his face covered with a dark birthmark like that and he was absolutely awesome. He would have looked so weird without it and I would never have wanted him to do anything to get rid of it (if that's even possible). It totally made him. He was really good looking too.

I dunno. I think your family needs to just love him and not comment on his birthmark.

Wthell is wrong with people...my fam says the same. I don't think they realize the kind of worry it causes to us moms!
My sons is on his leg and somedays it's darker than others. Then Again, some days he is darker too...like somedays he looks very porcelain, other days kind of red or tan? So I think that makes a difference.
Also: if a birthmark is exposed to sun it will darken more than the surrounding skin. I know this because I have an Angels kiss on my thigh and when I tan, it gets get BLUE/bruise dark.

My doctor told me it would go away with the first couple months of life. My son is 3.5m and no signs of fading...and I just don't care! Who cares...
My BIL will always joke and be like "stop beating your kid!" Because his birthmark looks like a bruise on his leg. I know it's obviously a joke but I get so sad:( I don't want my baby to look like he has a bruise:(

wow thats a bit insensitive of them, especially the "I still love him" comment, although I'm sure it comes from a good place. Lets see what the dermatogist has to say but if I were you I would tell my family to stop commenting on it because you dont want him to be self conscious about it .

my daughter has a large hemangioma on her chest (about the size of a nickel, she's 4 months) and it's raised. she has a smaller one (pencil eraser) on her forehead. people always comment! my SIL was like "No girl wants that on their boob, you can have it removed."

people can be obnoxious. I'm hoping that like the Ped says, it'll fade between ages 1 and 6, but we will see. sorry you're dealing with this too!

E has one of these on his forehead too, he's almost 8.5 months. It has faded since birth, but it gets darker when he's warm or agitated. I wouldn't worry too much about it... sometimes family just needs to zip it.

My 9 month old son has an angel's kiss on his forehead, which is common and supposed to fade by the time he is 2 according to Doctors. Last week, it was the darkest it has ever been. It made me worry and wonder what if it isn't just an angel's kiss. They are supposed to fade, not get darker.

My dad came to visit us last week, and he kept pointing out the birthmark. He would not let it go, and it just made me worry more. He left on Saturday, and I Skyped with my sister yesterday. One of the first things she said was, "I see that he still has his birthmark! Oh well, I still love him anyways!". What is wrong with my family?!

So after everything, my husband and I made an appointment with a dermatologist for later this week to hopefully be told that it is indeed just an angel's kiss.
