My friend got married at Sandy Island family camp (a ymca camp) in VT a few years ago and I loved it. We went to a weekend family camp near us after that. It was great.

@periwinklebee: best family vacation we've done was a family camp so that all meals were provided and the kids were in "camp" with counselors who are college kids pretty much all day. it was DREAMY. The one we went to was through my/DH's college alumni society but there are YMCA camps all over the place that are super similar. It's dirty for sure but not like tent camping. We all had a blast and were so sad we had to miss the last 2 summers due to covid.

@Baby Boy Mom: Good to know! Especially for when the kids are older and I may feel like I can brave a longer trip!

This looks very cool! Another option that we’ve done is stay at a resort that has a kids club. Lots in Mexico and the Caribbean. I think the place we stayed the kids had to be 4 years old. We would drop them off for a couple of hours every day and they loved it.

I haven’t been but have friends who have done family camps, which seem more rustic than Tyler place but also fun. Tyler Place looks amazing though and I am seriously considering booking it for next summer!! You should do it!

@Corduroy: This sounds awesome, I wish this was more common! Hah, at this point even a date night sounds like a dream come true, lol... but I'd love a family camp. Watching the kids for happy hour is genius...

@karenbme: This is awesome to hear! I'm not sure if we would actually swing going, but daydreaming about it should be fun, lol

@periwinklebee: I’ve never done this, but FWIW I live about an hour from Tyler Place and have heard amazing things. One of the board members at my first job in VT would move there with her family every summer (ala Mrs. Maisel or Dirty Dancing) and raved about it. Her husband would still commute to Burlington and she would leave the kids to go to meetings or meet friends frequently so clearly trusted the staff with her kids, who were elementary aged at the time. I think there are one or two others left in the are but I’m not totally sure.

@periwinklebee: That looks amazing. We go to a city run local family camp that is a much much scaled down version of this concept - and we love it.

There are counselors around that hang out with your kids and lead the activities. At this place families are together most of the day but twice a day the counselors take the kids for an hour or an hour and a half to give the parents a break (the afternoon break is a happy hour). They also have nights out on Tuesday nights where the parents can take a van to a casino while the counselors watch the kids.

It's very much camp vs upscale resort but just having two hours a day to yourself, a game room to let the kids play and counselors absorbing the kids' energy throughout the day makes me want to go back again and again.

I think my son just turned 3 the first time we went. He wasn't totally sold on going with the kids group that visit. By the time he was 4 he was totally into it.

Context: Kid free vacation is not an option for us, since we don't have family we can leave the kids with, so I pretty much had figured on no parenting break until my youngest (still in utero) turns 18, lol. And I have not had a vacation, at all, since before my oldest was born. I've undoubtedly been living under a rock, but had never even thought about the concept of a family resort until someone was talking about it in our local parents' fb group. The point seems to be to allow parents to have a pseudo-kid free vacation, while bringing the kids along and giving them a camp like experience. This was the place they were talking about - https://tylerplace.com/the-experience/ Babysitters available for kids too young for the camp experience and for nightlife.

Have you done a family resort experience where the kids were doing organized activities/with a babysitter for much of the time? How old were your kid(s) and would you do it again?
