We will race to landmarks like fire hydrants or trees... We have a few different ways to make a loop so we switch it up based on how long we want to be out!

I was going to suggest Scavenger Hunt, a bit like @Greentea: suggested :) Also I remember hearing about something where you walk and then flip a coin to determine which direction to take next, like heads is left tails is right. Would that be fun?

DH and I have often done this. if we didn't have anything pressing to discuss we'd often play the alphabet game. Pick a category (like movies, for example) and one person starts with a movie that starts with A. Then the next person has to come up with a movie that starts with B. Etc. Sounds lame but its fun :)

My kids are only 10 months so our dog walking in front of the stroller is enough entertainment!

When I was a kid, though, we'd go for walks and play "road trip" games - we'd look for the letters of the alphabet in order on signs or buildings. Or we'd say I spy something blue and everyone would guess what we were looking at.

What about having the kids take pictures? Or look for different things each time? We do daily walks as well!

Could you change up the order in which you go? Take your normal route backward, or explore a new street?

That's our quality talk time, with no distractions! You could play "I Spy" with the kids. Or, work your way through the alphabet, looking for something that starts with an A, a B, etc.

We used to take family walks in the evening with the kids, but it gets dark so early in winter that we had to stop. It's staying light out later and later though, so I'd like to start going on walks after dinner with the kids again! It's a great way to connect as a family, and to get some fresh air too... I think it helps the kids sleep a little better too, to walk around after eating dinner.

The only problem is that it can get a little boring walking around the same blocks every evening. Any tips for livening things up?
