I am terrified of SIDS (as 2 babies I have known personally died from it)... my LO sleeps with the ceiling fan on every night. Right now she is wearing light long-sleeve pjs and a thicker 2.5 tog sleep sack. Her room temp is 67-72 degrees.

65-70 is the best temp for baby. So I wouldn't worry about the temp, it sounds like baby will be warm enough.

We always keep a fan on in there, for the white noise as well as air circulation. I figure that he'll let me know if he's uncomfortable with the temperature!

@Jennimac: me too. In our birth class/hospital they recommended 65-70 degrees, and our friends said their birth instructor said the best temperature for a baby is one where adults would be comfortable with a sweater.

Her room is usually around 72. And we always run the fan. My LO runs hot, though, so I don't usually worry about it.

I read somewhere that they recommend babies rooms to be around 65 to help with SIDS.

I think your husband's suggestion of running the fan on reverse (winter mode) is a great one. It'll circulate the warm air instead of cooling the air. I'm terrified of Sids too.

Our ped told us not to worry about cold hands/feet- that their circulation isn't great yet, making cold hands/feet totally normal. I HATE it though!!! And we have a fan, baby is in a PNP in our room though and our room gets kind of hot. Plus it's FL... we still have the AC on!

@ladybee: Yes it is! Cosleeping freaks me out because of SIDS but it works so well that I do my best to ignore the anxiety.

Baby's hands tend to be cool in general. I've run a fan in LO's room since he was a newborn because of SIDS. His room is kept at about 70 degrees usually. His room is also the smallest in the house, so circulation helps a lot. At night, we've put him in micro fleece sleepers with autumn and winter. During summer, he just wore cotton footies.

@ladybee: I was told its normal for their extremities to be cold as long as their core feels warm. That's what I go by.

@Foodnerd81: his hands are cold during night feedings, which is why I'm worried about him being cold. DH just put the fan on reverse to circulate air but I'm not sold.

LO sleeps in our bed and my SO is really hot at night so we always have had a fan running and the AC on. It gets pretty cold sometimes but he's always been fine snuggled up next to us. I wouldn't think you'd have to worry about temp unless it's REALLY cold in there.

We keep it pretty cool, prob 70 or slightly below. She sleeps in a magic sleepsuit now and her hands are always freezing when I get her in the motn but I've read too cool is better than too warm. I think you would be fine with the fan.

A has slept with a fan since she was a newborn, but more for the white noise of it than anything. We just put warm pajamas and a sleep sack on her in the winter.

I'm a FTM and feeling very anxious about SIDS. It's cool here and we are keeling lo's room at 70-72 degrees. We have a ceiling fan but I feel like it makes his room so cold. However, I keep reading how air circulation reduces the risks and now I feel like I should have something.

Do you run a fan in lo's room? What temp do you keep it? DH said that putting the fan on reverse may be an option. Thoughts? Suggestions?

LO sleeps in a long sleeved side snap tee or onesie and a fleece halo swaddle sack.
