We have a white farmhouse sink and I love it. Our kitchen is gray and white and I think it adds a nice touch (and we get a ton of compliments). Personally I don't think the trend is going away anytime soon. I'd get a faucet that detaches so you can easily rinse the whole sink. A quick wipe with soft scrub once a week makes it look new. And no issues with water splashing.

@chopsuey: I love that the tree is up! I've been pretty down after the election so got a few decorations from Target yesterday and plan to start decorating and listening to Christmas music soon  "We need a little Christmas, right this very minute!"

@Mrs. Pickles: thank you! the malls in our area and my kids' schools have already decorated for Christmas so they inspired me to get it done too :P

We love the white farmhouse style! Eventually will put one in. It seems like such a timeless classic style, can't imagine how it could become outdated. The silver ones are nice too.

@peachykeen: I use mine with my toddler and don't get too much water on the floor. We just wipe it up. The problem we actually have is that is it set into a butcher block counter and we are constantly getting water by the faucet (from splashing etc) and having to try to get it wiped down right away.

I like having a big sink, but I hate how low it is (when I was pregnant I couldn't wash dishes because it hurt my back). If we had put it in ourselves there are a lot of things I would have changed about it.

@peachykeen: I get drops of water on the top of the apron, but never have issues with water dripping down the front of it. My sink isn't clean and I have dirty dishes inside, but this is how ours looks. (Yes, I'm crazy and put our tree up yesterday) 🙈

@peachykeen: I am more careful when washing so I don't really get much outside of the sink. DH is more messy and yes water does run down the front... But I'm super OCD so I wipe everything down every night. I would never NOT have my apron sink b/c of that though. I just love love love having a huge sink and having it as close to me as possible.

I have always wanted one of these. We just moved into a house with a newly renovated kitchen, so it might be a while before I can justify it BUT does anyone have issues with extra water/soap on the floor or cabinet fronts when washing dishes?

This is my only fear, since when I'm washing big pots/baking dishes water sometimes runs off them onto the counter (I'm messy). I'd rather have the water on the counter than on our wood floors or cabinets, and I worry with the apron-front any water would just fall on the floor & cabinet fronts.

@ChitownRo: @brownepiano: @chopsuey: @snowjewelz: Tell me I'm crazy and this isn't an issue - they're so pretty and otherwise seem really practical!

I also have a large stainless steel apron sink from Kohler and I've been very happy with it. We got a single basin, which has functioned very well for us. I am not an interior designer but I love design and follow many design blogs and it doesn't seem like a trend that is going anywhere anytime soon.

We're getting a single bowl undermounted sink, it's got the pros of the large basin like a farmhouse sink but takes up way less space in the kitchen. They are pretty dominant features.

@aprild: I think if you live in a house that has an older, country feel, then it's totally appropriate. But, if you live in a more modern/newer built home, that it's just a trendy thing that will look dated.

I have one. There are some things I really like about it but some things I hate. If you do get one, make sure it has a good slope to it so it drains easily. Ours doesn't so I have to clean it every day or it gets gross. And because it's such a statement piece I feel like I have to keep it clean and looking nice!

It looks really hipster/trendy to me. And our Architect and kitchen designers have steered us away from one too, citing that it already looks dated.

I don't have one, so take this with a grain of salt. I just redid our kitchen and was worried about the trendiness as well. We have a couple rental properties with those old shell shaped bathroom sinks that look totally dated now and I was worried about that.

However, kitchen trends seem to last a long time because it's not like people swap out their kitchen every season/year like the clothing industry. I've heard stainless steel is a trend, too, but we still got that for our appliences because that's what worked with our kitchen

Do you have a farmhouse/apron front sink? If so, do you like it? Do you think it's a trendy or timeless look for a kitchen? We are renovating our kitchen, and my husband likes the look of this type of sink. I don't have any experience with one, so I'm curious about how practical they are and comfortable to use. I appreciate any input.
