Gosh the fasting number was always the hardest for me!

When I found out I had GD at 10 weeks for the first few weeks my numbers were like you slightly above 90 and my doc wanted me under 90.

It was really stressing me out!

After I accepted that taking meds were okay my number got a lot better. I think the stress was causing my high number.

Also I ate a really high carb thing in bed before I went to sleep. Like half a cookie or half a slice of pound cake. That worked for me the best near the end of my pregnancy.

If you end up needing to take shots, rotate where you take them. My husband is a diabetic and he rotates between his thighs, his stomach, and the backs of his arms.

@ladybee: Insulin didn't hurt for me! The hardest part was mentally getting past having to stick a needle in my side. I barely felt it.

I had similar numbers early on in my current pregnancy (3rd) and my Dr prescribed Metformin and Glyburide pills that I take with dinner. I didn't need meds for my GD for my second pregnancy. Good luck!!!

@ladybee: I didn't need to take insulin. My numbers would have a wacky number here or there but were generally ok. However, I'm really not squeamish about needles and my best friend is a type one diabetic so I've been around insuling injections half my life.

I just know insulin may be a possibility for me in my next pregnancy. There is only so much we can control with diet when our body has other plans.

I had GD twice and never was able to get my fasting in range. I was always just a little high. I took a dose of glyburide every evening after dinner and it did the trick for me.

@ladybee: I know it's stressful! But there is only so much you can do. I used to get so upset because I would eat perfectly and still get high numbers.

If you have to go on insulin it'll be ok!

@tinyperson: @wonderstruck: thanks. My husbands cousin has been diabetic most of her life. She suggested drinking green tea with cinnamon in it. I'm going to try it tonight. I find this so anxiety producing. I'm already on 500mg of metformin, maybe 1000mg would help.

I had to take a pill at night before going to sleep because none of the trucks worked for me. Mine was similar to yours, and it was a struggle to get it low enough but not too low - I think I ended up taking like half a pill of the lowest dose? I wouldn't think you'd need insulin with your number being so close to the limit.

My fasting numbers were always high - I had to go on insulin at night. My Dr. told me I could either take the insulin before bed, or get up and go for a jog in the middle of the night :)

If you end up going that way, it really wasn't a big deal, and actually took a lot of the number stress away for me.

EDIT: I'm in Canada, and I've noticed that pills aren't really used as much as in the States. Insulin tends to be the medication of choice. My morning numbers weren't really high, just over the limit.

My fasting glucose has been ranging from 86-112 over the last week. Majority of the time it's around 94. My doctor would like to see it under 90. I'm on a diet plan and all my other numbers are great. My diet plan calls for 15grams of carbs before bed which I've been doing but it doesn't seem to work.

Last night I tried a high protein snack (2 cheese sticks) plus some blueberries (maybe 1/4 cup) and I was still high today.

Any tips? I'm only 7 weeks and I find this stressful. I can't imagine feeling this way for 33 weeks. :bummed:
