I had terrible swelling and honestly, nothing really helped except for staying off of them/putting them up (and that only helped a little). I slept with my feet elevated and they were still pretty swollen in the morning. :( Many, many, hugs to you. All I can offer is that it's totally worth it.

It's normal. Make sure you keep your feet higher than your heart - just putting them up isn't going to do anything. Lay down in bd or on the floor and put them up on 2-3 pillows, for at LEAST 45 minutes at a time. If you only do it for a little while it won't accomplish anything.

@swedishfish: that may have something to do with it. the specialist said that swelling usually isn't different just because someone is having twins.

@Sugar.Biscuit: I would talk to your doctor. I am 34 weeks and have minimal swelling (knock on wood). To be honest, my feet swelled more with my first pregnancy at an earlier time than they have ever swelled up this pregnancy.

Lay on the ground with your legs up the wall, so you are 90 degrees.

If you are sitting it isn't enough to just put your feet up. They need to be well above your heart to do anything to help with the swelling.

I'm so sorry you have this going on. I've been there!

@Sugar.Biscuit: I didn't swell during pregnancy but I looked like that after delivering from all of the fluids I got during labor and delivery. I slept with my feet up on a wedge pillow to make sure they stayed elevated throughout the night. Do you think you're so swollen so early because you're carrying twins?

@Sugar.Biscuit: oh wow!! So early! I would bring it up at your next appointment, swelling is normal but that seems like a lot for 20 weeks. Though take that with a grain of salt because everyone is different!

Oh no!! You poor thing! Have you tried some of that peppermint foot lotion (I think that's for helping with circulation and swelling right? Or maybe it's just minty for smelly feet, haha!). I used to have a massaging foot bath when I was in ballet that I would do Epsom salt soaks in (which I think IS good for swelling)

This was at ~9:30 the other morning, I feel your pain! (Excuse my desperate need of a pedicure) they're triple that size when I go home!

The only thing that helps a little is by not wearing shoes, if I'm at my desk I slip my shoes off to let them breathe a little. Other than that just keep them up, I know that doesn't really help but what can you do?

How far along are you?

I know what your going to tell me. Put your feet up, drink lots of water, rest often. Now tell me how tonget this swelling down now! Its starting to hurt. My Dr. Isn't worried about it...well at least over the phone he wasn't. Who knows what he will say when he sees me this week. My BP has been normal so they aren't concerned with that. So tell me what you did to relieve the pain & swelling in your feet?
