All we did was gate our stairs and cover our outlets. I bought cabinet locks but we haven't installed them yet and so far haven't needed them.

We really only ever did Ikea outlet covers. We don't really have a lot of breakable/valuable items and we taught them to stay away from cables and the electronics that are low.

We put up gates at the bottom and top of the stairs, used outlet covers on the outlets, put corner bumpers on our entertainment center, and put magnetic locks on all the bottom cabinets and drawers in our kitchen. My son went through a phase where he would open all the cabinets and either play with everything in them, or dump everything out. It was easier to keep them locked than to keep cleaning up after him. I also moved all breakable items off the tabletops that he can reach (like the coffee table, side table, etc). My son is really tall, so he can reach a lot.

Door Monkey on all the rooms we don't want him to access (laundry, master, bathrooms, DH's office. Outlet covers. We put cabinet latches on and that was a total PITA to drill and install but necessary, at least on the lower ones unless you want to move everything/leave them empty. Honestly for most things, clear heavy duty packing tape has worked great and we carry it on trips to childproof a hotel room or condo. We have drawers taped shut (like the oven drawer, the washer dryer drawers) and our fireplace glass door. We bought fasteners to wrap our blind cords around. Make sure your curtains are secured well to the wall - they like to hide and wrap themselves around in them and tug pretty hard.

DD is 15 mo and we really only have corner bumpers, outlet plugs (she has never been that interested) and gates, those are must. We didn't really lock the cabinets; just relocated some stuff and always watched her. She's climbing now so we're figuring out what are some next steps we need to take!
