@mediagirl: I haven't read this yet but I'm dying to (in newborn days so I have no down-time)--Indianapolis, by Lynn Vincent and Sara Vladic, it just came out this summer. If you're unfamiliar it's the story of the ship that delivered part of the atomic bomb and was torpedoed by a Japanese sub and its sailors flailed in the water being eaten by sharks for a week before their eventual rescue. I read a terrific review of it in the WSJ and how cool is it that it was written by two women?!

I love it when someone says Titanic is there favorite, I'm a huge fan!! There is not enough written about it :)

Anyways, historical fiction is my absolute favorite genre to read. Check out Ken Follets Century trilogy. It starts right around the Titanic era and goes through the late 1980's. The first book is called Fall of Giants. If you are into audiobooks, the version on Audible is AMAZING.

Another WWII era book that is great, but heavy on the military part is Herman Wouk's Winds of War and War & Remembrance.

To branch out a bit from that time period, I also really enjoy the Wildnerness series by Sara Donati. The first book is called Into the Wilderness. I don't usually enjoy this time frame, but this series is great.

The Time In Between by Maria Duenas - the novel the netflix show is based on. Good stuff.

Since I'm obsessed with food, A Square Meal: A Culinary History of the Great Depression is interesting nonfiction.

While it's a little outside of your timeframe, O Pioneers! by Willa Cather is a classic. I live in the Great Plains, though, so stories about pioneers hit me in the feels.

Oh, have you read the Montmaray trilogy? YA set during WW2, they’re great. There’s also Blackout, which is kind of science fiction - it’s about “historians” in 2060 who study history by time traveling to the era, and a group of historians who go back to WW2.

@josina: so good! She has a new one coming out soon, too - The Huntress.
@MrsSCB: @erinbaderin: yes, absolutely. I'll try both, thanks!
@foodiebee: read them both and enjoyed both of them.

I feel like I have read through the saturated WWII market... :)

Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys (historical YA) is very good and set during WWII. Also, if you haven't read All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr, it's well worth it.

If you’re open to nonfiction, Dead Wake by Eric Larsen about the sinking of the Lusitania is very good.
